I've been driving a 94 Mark VIII for the last several years. It still runs great, but has over 140k miles on it, and I think it's time to send it down the road. I'd like to get into an LS. Being a Mark VIII owner, my instinct says go for the LS V8. However, I know that a manual tranny was available with the V6 for the first few years - and that's intriguing. In any case - I'm hoping you guys can give me a little direction on stuff to look for when checking out prospective vehicles. For example - on a Mark VIII I know to carefully check the air suspension, ask if the 1-2 accumulator was properly upgraded, etc. Are there common problems I should look out for on an LS? Thanks.

many nickel and dimers in the Gen 1s Gen 2s i would try to get one that has had the Selenoid body replaced underwarranty or had the recall done early. other wise if the build date was later 2004 and on your pretty safe from from i have heard. I would tend to stay away from the 2000 -02 just from some of my buddies experiences and others on this site. I just think you would be happier with a gen 2. o and who doesnt like more power anyway, or cooled seats

go drive a bunch of them

the 1st gens have too many problems. Drive as many as possible, get one that feels tight and solid. Many are ragged out. Later models are better. I have first gen, tons of repair fixes, but once it was repaired, its great. :D

I have a 00, just have to do the valve cover gaskets and coils, not much problems other than that yet at 115,000 miles.
