Hello everyone new to the forum. Anyway my problem is i have a 1996 lincoln viii and i replaced the transmission but the problem i am now having is when i put the shift selecter into 2nd gear it kills the engine just like it was a manual transmission without useing the clutch im stumped please help. thanks Joe

What did you replace your trans with?

You might need a new MPLS (neutral safety switch) sensor.

Scan your car for any codes and post them back here. Since it's a 96 any Auto Parts store should be able to help.

Its not like its just dying out it actually kills the motor like your letting a clutch out to fast. I put the same trans out of a 94 t-bird they said it was the same unless the mlps is differant but it worked fine for about 4 days.

Did you keep the mark TQ converter? 75% of electrical problems regarding the transmission on this car useually comes back to the MLPS, go to a yard and pull another one off and try it.

+1 Torque converter is probably killing the engine

I know t-bird converter wont fit a mark unless You change the flex plate also. Check the senssor first, then we will take it from there.

Found the problem the 2 solinoids in the valve body were bad replaced them and it shifts like a dream again. Thanks for all your help guys very much appreciated. Thanks again JOE
