hi guys. im the proud new owner of a 96 mark 8. got it cheap, $500, but it has an oil leak and one bad air bag on front. those things are being fixed now. you guys dont seem too shy with your responces to peoples plans so i thought id get a few honest opinions on mine. by the way, its at a shop having the first 2 problems fixed now. short term plans, get it running right, new coil packs, plugs, plug wires, fuel pump, and adjustable fuel pump regulator. next will be CAI and just drivetrain mods: 410 gears, traction lock, aluminum driveshaft, J-mod, and torque converter. those should be a good start. long term will include full exhaust, solid rear axle, 01 cobra heads and intake, turbo cams, and single or twin turbos. i will cross that bridge when i get there. i want to keep the car looking pretty stock other than wheels and maybe cobrastar emblems. i want to mount the extra gauges out of sight and keep it pretty quiet so i have a nice, comfortable sleeper. any input or advice / heads up stuff would be greatly appreciated. im loving the site

Sounds like you're on the right track on getting it up to snuff first.

wont do me any good to modify it til it runs right. im going to wait til i have the bottom end built before i do the cobra heads and intake. car has 187k miles now. thats why im going to do drivetrain first. lol

Good thinking haha. 187k, XLRVIII had a mark w/ 404,000 or something crazy

i think its going to run fine with the tune up. it idles very smooth just leaks oil too bad to drive. its coming from the timing cover and barely leaks at all unless its running

you'll probably find it's not the timing cover that's leaking it'll be the oil filter adapter gasket that seals that plate behind the oil filter.

you car would be the first timing cover leak I'd ever heard of on a mark 8...

just a thought from the far side..

Dont worry about the engine.. at 360,000 miles mine still had the crosshatch in the cylinder walls.. you will literally have to spray more than 100 shot of nitrous on it if you want to break it.

update the transmission first and formost.. do the gears and get you another mark 8 or cobra motor to "build up"..cause if your waiting for yours to beak..it'll be another 200K before it does that..

that's ALLLOOT more laps from the car dealership down to beverly hills and back.

lol. i hope your right about that leak. it should be alot easier to fix than the timing cover would be. i also hope my engine runs that long. im not in any hurry to do the heads and intake, just saying i hope the motor lasts til i have the funds to do it all at one time
