Hey guys :)

I posted about this awhile, back I couldnt find the old thread. Regardless here we go.

I have the bulbs installed. I like the color, and they are bright close up. They are just the HEON Performance 9006 for low beams ( 4,300K). Alone they light up the road ALRIGHT, but its a bluish-white haze. When I turn my fogs on, they are a yellowish white, it adds and makes visibility better x5 or so.

My question is What should I do for my fogs / high beams. The highbeams are currently Slyvania 51 watts I believe, They are yellowish color, almost like daylight color

Im thinking of adding HEON Titanium 3,800K for high beam, or just the Silverstars. Or maybe Silverstars all around for High / Fogs.

I want something similar to HID with nice color to brightness.

Clear me up on this, the lower *k rating means brighter natural color? Or the higher, such as 3,800K is brighter than 4,300?

Plug and play HID kits are getting very cheap, why not just buy a set instead of just bulbs?

In my experience, 4300K is the best for visibility (and that's what I currently have). The higher the temperature (Kelvins) but "bluer" is it, I would not go over 6k cause then it just looks like a blacklight.

Here's mine:

Point me to the direction or prices for the "plug and play" HID's

on lskoncepts they are $300 and upwards. Quite pricey for lights In my opinion.

Now looking on the website, I see they dont even carry the HOEN bulbs any more, just the NOKYA bulbs. Which are all 7000K

I'm just confused of what to purchase, I want something that is bright and nice color tone too it, I like the tone of what I currently have, but it just doesnt span too far.

Hey mrfuzz, here's a good link to read about something called Color Rendering Index, or CRI:

http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/Hid/disadvantages/disadvantages.html

I know the title of the page is "Disadvantages of HID", but it's a very good article written by one of the top lighting experts out there (and helps describe things you might notice if you switch to HID).

Now that article is talking about HID vs. Halogen. But, from what I read, you have "colored" halogen bulbs, and not HID. When you're talking about color temperatures like the Hoen's you've purchased, it can be deceiving. The way in which the manufacturers achieve these different "color temperatures" with halogen bulbs is with filters. So, to achieve the different colors, they are actually filtering out the yellow, which in turn actually gives you less light output.

When talking real HID, I would stay far away from anything above 4300K, as color temperatures above that actually make it harder to see at night. Actually anything above 4300K is illegal, and that's why all OEM HID setups are 4300K. Yeah, yeah, who cares about that though, right?

Obviously the solution for best output is to retrofit some HID projectors into your LS; you won't be disappointed going this route. The other option would be to use some 03+ headlights with the OEM HID ballasts/bulbs (try to stay away from cheap ballasts and bulbs). I would also leave your high beams and fogs halogen (unless you were to retrofit some projectors in your high beams/fogs), and not use any "colored" bulbs in them.

Hope that helps.

I have 8000k HIDs in my headlights and fogs that I would be willing to sell you. I want to get something with a little different color. I could do 180 for the set.

I tried Hoen's bulbs in my fogs. I advised them I wanted to match high beams and fogs to the factory HID's, but when I installed the fog bulbs, they were extremely blue by comparison, and turned the housings blue when off. Hoen was good about allowing me to return them, however.

I now have SilverStars in my fogs, and they are whiter than the stockers, but not quite the same as my HID's. Much closer though, and close enough for me. Now I just need to find some high-beam bulbs. I believe Hella has some I've seen recommended.
