Here it goes. Once I blew the motor on my LS I needed another car to drive so I asked around. (BTW, we should make a poll to see how many people have back-up vehicles for when the LS is down.) My brother found me a FREE car from his gf's uncle. It's free Ford Taurus so of course I took it. Well, this is the first Ford I've ever owned (I don't count the Gran Marquis or LS) and it's not bad for having over 170k, no heat and no muffler. His gf's brother was doing God knows what to this car, which you will see in the pictures. I can't complain because it was free except for the $150 to title and register it plus the $5 spent on the Maxi fuse to get the headlights working again. Took about 1.5 hours to trouble shoot that one. But the body is in great shape and the motor/trans are strong. Check out the pics. This kid was trying to do some crazy custom stereo install or something I can't even imagine. He is tapped into wires all over the car, has the wire wrapping pulled of a lot of the engine wiring, and has a few "contraptions" rigged plus a lot of his connections wrapped with teflon tape. The teflon tape actually looks pretty clean and I imagine it is waterproof and protects everything pretty well. Oh and the dash is all ripped apart too. Got the headlights working, found the airbag in the trunk and plugged that back in so that damned light stops blinking, need to add a muffler, and if I ever want a stereo I will have to custom wire it. But at least it gets me from A to B, unlike the Linc at the moment!

Got I just got my free car yesterday and now tonight after work I am going to be driving to Connecticut to pick up the parts car I won on Ebay. I am doing it myself because it is the cheapest way plus this is the perfect weekend with only having to miss one day of work and my store being closed on Easter. It is about 2000-2200 miles round trip. I'll take some picks and all of that good stuff. Then everyone who ordered parts from me and those who wanted pics and everything can get their stuff next week. Wish me luck!

So it was your brother's girlfriend's uncle's girlfriend's brother's car?

p.s. I'm enjoying reading your repair tales

Well it's pouring rain here again. Looks like you are having a wet trip out here. Hopefully the LS doesn't sink completely into the mud before you get here. :)

Meanwhile, since I am a packrat, I am going through all my old stuff and finding a few goodies to throw in. How about the original VHS tape that came with the car, anyone?

Lol it came with a vhs tape?

Yes it did. It explained all the features of the car. I don't think I ever watched the whole thing.

The car also came with a pair of Waterford crystal flutes with the Lincoln emblem on them. They sell on Ebay for about $50 nowadays. I'm not parting with mine though.

A couple years later Lincoln sent me this little magnetic sculpture thing made out of tiny Lincoln emblems. I found that one too. I'm thinking they might have sent some other little premium at one time or another, but I can't remember what it might have been.

I've heard of the crystal flutes, I'd definitely hold onto them if I were you. How much would you want for the tape? I'd be interested in seeing it.

Freakin awesome! I cant believe you are going that many miles with that car. Thats great!

Classic man classic!

Good luck and do tell us the many stories I know you'll have when you get back about that free cars trip:lol:

looks like someone was trying to do a remote start/alarm system on it and ripped it off or gave up, or both lol, what a mess

Sometimes you just have to give up on trying to figure out what other people are/were thinking when you see stuff like that. What a friggin mess. Good luck sorting all that out.

What the hell is that big heat sink just hanging out in that one pic?

LOL! I remember driving my trans am from Michigan to CT w/o a working engine fan, not TOO bad, at most I had to refill the coolant on a lunch stop.

Oh, and yeah...it's gonna be raining while you're here. Hello, welcome, and goodbye, all in one day huh?!!

Maybe I'll take the time to get it onto DVD so we can all have one!

Ask Falecf4. He'll have it by the end of the day today.

Haha! It's all mine. Along with a few other goodies. Pics later.

WHAT!?!?!?! OMG, what is going on with that wiring? :slam

No clue...

 FALECF4 - make sure you bring a fire extinguisher with you on that road trip - seriously!!!! :eek2:

Ok, there seems to be a misunderstanding here. I just got that car for free so I can get around while the LS is out of commission. Although I think it would make it...I would not dare drive that car from WI to CT! I got my brother's truck and a U-Haul car trailer for that. I'll have a fun enough time towing this car back with his truck. Idk what the fck the Taurus would have done.

What the hell is that big heat sink just hanging out in that one pic?

No clue once again. I followed all of the custom wires back through the fire wall where they are wired into a connector strip and the factory wiring harness. How do you like that capacitor next to the heat sink and they both had a fuse attached too. It looks like he had to ground a bunch of his wiring and in the process re-did the factory stuff to and wrapped it with teflon tape so uuuuhhhhh guess that's nice.

The Trip

Ok, now to clear things up! Got 4 hours of sleep Thursday night, picked up my brother's truck at 2:30PM, went to pick up the U-Haul trailer which made me late for work, then went to work, had people come in to eat late so I was stuck there until 11PM, on the road by 11:30. I drove until almost 4AM which landed me in Indiana and at my first fill-up! I parked the truck, took a 2.5 hour nap in the back seat and then continued on my way until I got to Randall's at 9:15PM. We got the car on the trailer in about 2 hours and just now finished playin' some Rockband! So minus my nap and the time zone difference it took me 19:15, which includes fill-ups, to make the trip pulling a trailer. I will also put up my mileage for the trip once I get back.

Ok, now for the pics.

-Just starting off on my drive. TomTom on the windshield(never would have found Randall's place without it)
-Truck and trailer
-Welcome to Penn.
-Somewhere in Ohio
-They have "SPEED LIMIT 55" sticker on the trailer so you can ready in the the mirror. 55....riiiight
-The truck
-The trailer and Randall backing up him M45 to shed some light
-Had to jack-knife the trailer to line up with the car

Then there are just a bunch of us getting the car up onto the trailer. The front passenger's side was kind of sunk in the mud and got a little worse as we pulled the car towards the trailer with the come-along. We ended up using the jack for the spare to jack up the front bumper so that we could put boards under the control arm (or what is left of it)and on the ramp. We slid that whole side onto the trailer using several boards and the come-along.

LS ready for transport!

Anyone know how I can put a caption by each picture instead of them all being in one big block?

Love the captions. Definitely put that vhs on dvd or upload it to the internet. That's really the reason I wanted it just to make sure that it gets put up here, I couldn't even tell you where my vcr is now lol.

Really?! Isn't that what your name means?

tape - dub...

Lame, I know. I'll see it I can "dub" the tape.
(Anyone, is that the correct use of the word dub?)
