hey. new to this forum. (not new to forums in general or to working on cars)

ive serached and searched for a couple days now. i still have a few quick questions.

2004 LS V6

1) does anyone have a link to a handy fix for the center console latch? (i've seen it referenced but i cant find it)

2) i dont think i have the sport package or whetever. how can i tell? more specifically what kind of suspension did this car come with? i read someone saying the u can get standard, sport or euro? was that just for a particular brand of aftermarket? im actually impressed with the suspension that the car has.

3) i have the in dash navigation with the in-dash 6-disc changer. i guess im satellite ready since i have the receiver or whatever coming out of the front windshield mounted to my roof and i have a "SAT3" button on my screen (along with the Sound, AM, FM1/FM2 and CD buttons.) So i need an auxiliary input for my mp3 player (not iPod). can anyone confirm that i just need the "PIE FRD03-AUX/S" deal? (i'd also really love to play dvd's on the screen, or also be able to control my music on the screen, instead of on my samsung galaxy which is what i use for my mp3 player)

4) dumb question. i have a stock subwoofer right? what would i have to do to have the ability to independently adjust the volume of it or whatever? is it possible to drop my own subs and amp in with the stock deck?

5) so being that i have the V6 with 87,000 miled on it, im confused about whether i need to worry about the plastic timing belt tensioners that seem to be such a problem. i searched and read a lot, but a lot of the time ppl didnt identify which motor they had or which year/generation they had? any quick insight into this for me? if there's even a chance my sht could break i wanna just replace them now. secondary and primary i guess... idk

thanx for any quick input. please minimize the "USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION" flaming.

The timing CHAIN tensioners and guides problems are particular to the AJ V-8 engine. This engine is a Jaguar design, with the 3.9 engine for the LS built at the Lima, Ohio engine plant.

The V-6 engine is a variant of the Taurus engines of the same years.

Center console latch:you can try gluing the release handle, better yet use Velcro on the console and armrest, can't buy just the armrest portion. Watch on Ebay, I bought a new armrest, different color, for about $60.

Model: 2004 interior, wood, black painted, aluminum trim on dash. Sport has aluminum, 17" wheels, sport coil over, no euro for 2nd gen and standard for painted trim, 16" wheels, stick with OEM shocks.

Stock sub: two of them under the rear window shelf.

so no problem with the tensioners on the V6 i take it. thanks.

stick with OEM shocks.

thanks

yeah my first attempt at glueing didnt hold. im thinking of drilling tiny holes in the latch and the broken tabs and connecting them with a small pin or like a piece of paperclip and some glue. i'll take pictures and post them if it works out.

thanks for the replies guys

That is exactly what I did last weekend! Sorry but I did not get any pictures. I had repaired the latch once before about 2 years ago. Drilled a hole large enough round for a finishing nail. Cut the nails to about 3/4" and super glued them inside each end of the latch's pivot tabs.

great. im gonna go try it right now. hopefully it holds up for a couple years.

The first time around I only super glued the small tabs back onto the latch. This time is more permanent I hope. It's not hard, just start with the smallest drill bit you have.

hopefully i didnt lose one of the tabs already, otherwise we'll be thinking up a fix for that scenario :p

Welcome.:W:V

You can run an aftermarket amp and subs off the factory headunit.

Same fix... just use a slightly larger nail and use that as the pivot tab.

thats what i was thinking but i think a nail thick enuf to fill out the pivot seat would be too thick for the lever (not enuf plastic on the lever to drill into) and using a thinner nail would allow the lever to wobble some... i found my broken pivot tabs tho. i spose a person could just find some suitable replacement for the pivot tab and fix it like we talked about above.

sure would be nice if there was a single LS in the junk yards around my area.

great. that makes me happy.

I'm no expert in the car Audio field, but I think the item you'll need is a "Hi/Low" converter??? (someone will correct me if I'm wrong)

It connects to you rear speakers I believe and has the outputs for RCA cable's to go to your amp.

What size wheels do you have? Like was said before, 16's probably mean nonsport. 17's Sport, also does your car have chrome strips in the bumper?

Post a picture of your car ;)

came with aftermarket rims but the placard for the tires says 16. so i have the non-sport. but i guess i was just a little confused. is the sport the same as the LSE?

no good pics yet. hasnt hardly stopped raining.

The LSE has different bumpers, the front is more noticable than the rear, the side skirts are also color matched and very slightly different on an LSE.

I'm imitating the LSE sides and rear bumper with mine being painted :P It also makes my car appear lower than it is, with the sides painted.
