Ok, so i get the fuel pump problem squared away....Now my battery light is on in the dash. I just did an alternator the end of Feb, so I take it off and run down to pep boys and get a new one. bring it home and slap it on. Light is still on, but now my horn and cruise control don't work???? What gives?? I checked all the fuses even the underhood ones, no luck, when i arm the alarm I hear the relay clickin, I even switched in a relay, but still no horn....i tested the horns and they work, but they're not getting juice....anyone have any ideas whats up with the horn/cruise besides dousting the car with holy water and screaming "the power of christ compells you!!!!"
 
clock spring.. is the only thing that those two have in commom.
 
These car are power freaks.....before you do anything fully charge your Batt.

I had the batt light alt. problems....got a alt form max...new Batt. Problem never came back.
 
ok now that its the clock spring, how do you fix it? I've searched like crazy and found nothing, i hear its easy to do, like 15 mins, but no answer on how to
 
yea, I'm not so worried about the batt light now, it either a beat battery or alternator, but the horn is pi$$ing me off!!!!!!! Would it still be the clock spring if it doesn't work with the alarm either?? I set the alarm off and just see light flash
 
My horn went out about 6 years ago so I put an air horn on it. Just used the same wiring and everything works great. So it could just be a bad horn?
 
I tested the horns themselves by jumping a wire from the horn tab to the + on the battery and beep beep they worked, so its gotta be something internal

it danged sure wouldn't be the first time a mark 8 had more than a single issue.

but the horn and the cruise control definatley point to the clockspring.

the batt light is probably a dead/dying battery or alternator or both.

Have you ever seen a Mark do goofy $hit when it has low juice?
 
oh hell yea...
I lost an alternator at the dragstrip...
had to drive 82 miles home, in the middle of the night.

We'd drive until the message center starting spouting off crazy crap, then pull over and swap the battery from tiffs car into mine...and continue towards home.

We swapped batteries 5 times in 82 miles....

and FWIW: at the stock setting,
the check charging system comes on at 11.5 volts
by that time you only have time to find a "soft place to crash".
the car dies very very shortly after displaying that message.

In the SCT software you can change that to a higher value which gives you a little more warning before the car electrical system crashes
 
Did you check the 20amp internal regulator fuse for the alternator under the hood?. I heard they don't go out that often, but when my pep boys alt when out that was the 1st thing I checked. Fuse is still good so put in a new alt.

An answer to this would be nice. I've probably got a clockspring issue, I'm getting an intermittent 32 airbag code which I'll try to confirm is the clockspring... If there isn't any info online I'll just get my Ford tech CD back from my friend, but if anybody's got a link it would be appreciated.
 
I pulled a clock spring out of a column to sell.... took me about 20 minutes to pull it out being careful.
 
Does the clock spring also effect things like the memory on the steering column going back to where it was after turning the key? My seat returns to where I had it, but the steering column is intermittent, as to whether it is going to go back down, or if I am going to have to put it down manually?
 
To pull the clock spring, just take the two bolts off the bakc of the steering wheel to pull out the air bag and its there????
 
it's behind the steering wheel.. you have to take it off as well.

you also have to pay particular attention when putting the new one on.
it has to be properly indexed otherwise when you turn the wheel it'll break the new clock spring.

it's far too much to type to spoon feed you the specifics and I wouldn't want to leave something out and have you break it based on my instructions.

the new clockspring will have the instructions included.
If you get a used one... you're gonna have to search high and low to find the right procedure.

no that is a seperate issue related to the potentiometer in the steering column, not related to a clock spring problem.

replacement of the potentiomter is the only resolution.
they are not longer available from ford from what I understand, so I used column would be your only recourse.
