My A/C is confuse! Lincoln LSE V8

My A/C works when it wants! Whats up with that?? I was driving today and decided to give the a/c a shot.. Thinking it was going to blow hot air as it always does and the friggin thang gets cold.. But when i shut the car off then turn it back on it started blowing hot air again!! It burned me up on the inside because it's soo HOTT outside right now.. I would like to know what this could be befor i take it to the dealer..

Thought I read Rock Auto has them for 121 dollars. Not that bad to replace.
