I am told these are on ebay, but I can't find any. Can anyone help me with this. They are $188.00 from Maxx. Also is it possible to disable the sensor on this switch?

There is no "sensor" on the multi-function switch. What are you talking about?

Try searching for lincoln ls wiper switch instead of multifuntion switch.

I am refering to the wiper sensor that activates the blades when the windshield is wet.

That is easy to disable by disconnecting the sensor on the windshield, but if your wipers are going even in the off position, then the sensor is not your problem.

My LS used to do the "phantom" wipe(s)out of nowhere for alittle while but then stopped couple months ago.

phantom wipe

the phantom wipe is caused by moisture in the end of the switch on the little contact pad. the old ford multifunction switch could be opened and repaired with cotton swabs and cleanup spray. These LS switches don't appear to be repairable. My phantom wipe was there for awhile then stopped. Only in the humid summer months did it phantom wipe.

Thank you Owlman that was very helpful. I found one on ebay, but the seller does not know if it has the sensor option. Is there a way to tell if it does by looking at it? Or am I better off without it...ha ha?

If it's from a gen I, then it does. Also, doesn't it say "auto" on the knob?

I have another one if anyone needs. Stealership told me it was bad. I bought and installed a new one and auto wipers still didnt work. Turned out to be the rain sensor, but of no refund for the multi switch since i put it in myself.

Thanks for the info on Phantom wipe. Stopped as soon as it got cold up here. I searched on phantom wipe and not much popped up months ago. I'll try hitting it with hair dryer in summer time when it comes back. FYI mine is a 2000 V6

The phantom wipe on the Gen 1 LS V-8 is not from moisture in the switch. If you check your owners manual(pg.69) you will see that when the wiper switch is left in the auto position and the ign. switch is turned off, then the next time the ign. switch is cycled to the run position, the wipers may cycle once.

no phantom wipe is different

Yes we all know about the book. A phantom wipe is when you are driving along not a cloud in the sky and the wipers suddenly cycle. You keep going and an hour later they cycle again. It can get real annoying. I have a 01V6, had it since new, no automatic rain sensors, and it used to cycle in the hot summers, last summer it stopped, fixed itself. This problem is not new, it has infested other Fords like the F150 and Explorer also.

We would get mulitiple wipes in a row some times really dragging the dry wipers across windshield. I told wife if it does it hit the windshield washer sprayer to lube wipers.

Installed new switch and problem persists! scjmc, are you telling me it's the rain sensor? How do I fix that. This is making me crazy. My mechanic did the install and we are both looking for answers, the spray mechanism does not work either.

If gen I is like gen II, then the electronics for the wiper are all (except the rain sensor) in the wiper motor assembly. If you can't stop the wipers by turning the switch to off, then your problem would either be with the wiring between the multi-function switch and the wiper motor assembly, or with the wiper motor assembly itself. I would think that the latter would be the more likely, but there are procedures to test and determine for sure.

spray

did the spray work before you changed the switch????? stand outside the car and hit the spray button and listen for the fluid pump to run. If it is running then you need to find out why the fluid is not getting thru the pipes. if the pump is not running then you need to check to see if power is getting to the pump, if no power then switch is suspect. maybe the switch you bought was not so good?

I had a problem with my auto wipers not working at all. My sprayer worked fine, and the other delay functions worked properly. Dont touch the rain sensor module unless you are having auto operational problems.

Gen I wiper motor is controlled by the FEM. The multifunction switch and rain sensor module are wired to the FEM and the FEM activates the relays for the wiper motor and the washer motor.
