So I replaced the vcg.. yay.. I used accel coils I haven't found anything to really tighten them down yet though so they've been rattling around in there.. I can't here them I'm just guessing. Its been running like a dream with crisper throttle response no misfires and smooth shifting until this morning. Its been raining for about two days when I wne tout to start the car this morning and it was misfiring like it was before the repair! The code came up and then I took it out and drove, no misfires while driving and after a bit it idled fine! Buit the code stayed on. Turned it off and on and it idled fine but the code remained. So after a few hours in the office I went back outside and turnd it on, sure enough bad idle.. took it for a 2 minute spin with a few high revs and idles smooth again. Turn it off and on a few times and smooth idle. But the code and light remains!! Any ideas? Ilm going to take the coils out to get them all tied down today or tomorrow.. see if that helps..

Interesting. I too get a rough Idle sometimes. Only after it has run for about an hour, then i let it sit. then on restart. But I get no Codes or CEL. Hmmm

Hope ya figure it out, keep me posted!

Not yet, the thought passed my mind but there shouldn't be any water in there. Regardless of the removed coil covers.. if I have water under the hood I gotta check the seal. Pita....

I have two questions.

Why are your coils loose? Aren't they bolted down or are the accel coils the taller ones that don't quite fit right?

Did you ever clear the CEL from the before the repair?

Doesn't sound good, from the sounds of it you may have gotten water in on the coils. How well they sealed in there? If water got down inside of them you may need new coils. Pull all of them and check them to see if they are wet at all and also check for oil. The o ring on my #8 coil split in half and caused oil to get on the coil and caused it to misfire horribly and ate the cats and o2s in the process. Definitely get the coils tied down. It took some careful maneuvering but I was able to use the stock bolts to hold them down.

Definitely water in the plug wells without that cover on. It could be a combination of condensation and/or the cowl seal letting rain water into the engine compartment.

1) yea taller accel coils. They're very snug and whatnot so I wasn't too worried at the time. The code automatically cleared when I finished

Ill pull the coils after work, how can I tell if I fried a coil with water? If I find a bit, dry it out and put them back in do you think they're still functional? Ill get the codes pulled too to see which cylinders are misfiring.. what's the cylinder numbering? Are these new accels salvagable??!

Now on lunch... starts right up and a smooth idle... if it stays that way usually the error code will turn off. Used to smooth out after an oil change too and the code would go away for a bit.. so hopefully if there was water it evaporated off and I can get them tied down before more rain. But my previous questions are still out there... HAHAHAHA sorry just watched a mismatched color bodykit acura with big fart can muffler attempt to floor it down the street.. so much noise and so little movement!! And we think our cars are slow!!

So with the accel coils being taller you guys can't put the coil cover back on the valve cover? That explains a lot! I'd be too worried about crap getting in there. Do the GEN1 and GEN2 have the same size coil cover and would anyone be willing to purchase a coil cover that fit over the accel coils and onto the vavle cover if I could fab them?
