Moonroof stripped

New project. Anyone know how to remove and repair the moonroof if motor gear is stripped in the closed position.
 
Actually, I havent gotten into it yet. BEen workig on interior. But it sounds like gears running over each other like a bad door window motor.. Happens in either direction too, in either function tilt or slide. How do I start?

very carefully pull the access cover off and take a look see. My Dad's 85 the motor had gotten loose and was just catching the gear. Same for my 98 Mark VIII - bolts had fallen all the way out and the motor fell down. Got all out of alignment - PITA to get aligned again.

A lot of VII's do not have an access cover for the moonroof motor.
