Okay, so I got the Crown Vic. I'm wanting to get custom plates on it, but am not sure what they should say. I've narrowed it down to two, but I think I'm gonna need help deciding which of the two to go with.
Idea 1) Moby Jr.
-You guys are all familiar with Moby, the white 1977 Lincoln Continental (an homage to the great white whale) This car is 233" long, by 82" wide weighing in at right about 5000lbs. The Crown vic, by contrast, is 212" long by 78" wide weighing in at just over 4000lbs and is also white. This plants the crown vic firmly in the realm of "huge", but also significanty smaller than Moby, hence, Moby Jr.
Idea 2) Vic 20
-This one's a lot easier to explain. It's simultaneously a nod to retro gaming and a play on words. In the early 80's there was a home computer by Commodore(used more as a video game system than an actual computer by many) called the Vic 20. It's also a nod to the Crown Vic itself. Crown -VIC-/-VIC- -20 Get it?
I'm not sure which one will get the most recognition at large.
Moby Jr., I worry would only be funny to people who know about Moby, but then, maybe not. They'd probably catch the reference to the great white whale and just think that I'm referring to the fact that The Crown Vic is smaller than the famed whale.
Vic 20 would get responses from retro gamers, but would anyone else get it? They'd probably catch the nod to the car, but wouldn't see what else I was hinting at. Maybe they'd think I was implying that it was a 2000 model year. Which would be cool if it actually was a 2000. It's a 1999. Or they could think it's part of a fleet of Crown Vics. Maybe this is car#20?
I think they'd both make great plates for the car, but so much so that I'm kinda dead-locked on which to go with. If you guys could chime in here with your two cents, then that'd be awesome.
Those are my two choices, unless I want to change Moby's plates to Ursa Major (URSAMJR) and then name the Vic Ursa Minor (URSAMNR) But I think that'd have the least appeal, and then when I refer to the continental and my firebird, it'd be a lot more combersome to say Ursa Major and Lucille than Moby and Lucille.
But on the other hand, that would be putting a polar bear reference on Moby which is white painted but with a forest green top and interior. White and green are the colors of my alma mater, North High (The North High Polar Bears) and from the day I got Moby, I had wanted to have a polar bear reference, but hadn't thought of Ursa Major til I got the vic.
Ever since I got Moby, I just invisioned rolling up to my 10yr reunion in a great big pristine classic car named for our school. That'd just be classic!
Then on the other hand, the Ursa Minor wouldn't work quite as well on the Vic. It's all white outside with a blue interior..
Aww screw it, I'm sticking to either Moby Jr. or Vic 20.
