Sorry, this post is pretty long.....
Ok, so three times now, my 97 base has not wanted to start. It cranked, but just didn't want to start. The first time, I thought that maybe the battery just didn't quite have enough juice, so I got a friend with a Tacoma to jump it, and it started right up. Cool. I took it to get the battery tested and they said it was fine, but it had a lot of corrosion that should get cleaned up and that maybe that was the reason why. Next morning, it started right up, got to work just fine, but when I went to leave about 4-5 hours later, no start--it just cranked and cranked. I tried 4 different people's cars to jump it, and none of them worked. Since it started when I jumped it the first day, I naturally thought that was the problem this day. I figured that maybe their batteries just weren't quite up to par with what a Mark VIII needed. So....I went and got the 5 ton "stake bed" truck (has 3 red top batteries) to jump it with that. I pulled it up to jump it, but I was about a foot too far away. I get in the car and put it in neutral to push it up closer. While in neutral, I figure "What the heck" and try to start it, and it starts right up with no jump. Hmmm....peculiar, but I think nothing of it. It worked fine for about 2 weeks after that.....just long enough for me to forget about the whole thing. Well, the other day the same thing happened to me, except this time, I'm stuck at a pool hall at about midnight. I didn't even think to try and start it in neutral. An hour and a half later, the tow truck comes and takes me home. I get it in the driveway and think, "hey, what about neutral?!?" I put it in neutral and it started right up (and pisses me off for having to wait so long for a tow truck).
Anyway, after that long explanation, does this sound like the MLPS? I've got a mechanic friend that immediately offered that up as the reason as soon as I said that it started in neutral both times.
Thanks!
