well i got myself a misfire. its been like that for awhile but i've been driving my marquis around for the last 2 months. it is simaliar to when i got water in the plug holes while washing the engine. I checked the plugs and coils and all seems fine. I have a sct2 and checked the computer but there arent any codes. it has new copper plugs gapped to spec. it got 11mpg this hole spring/summer and i'm pissed.

How can i figure this out.

ps: My friends computer said both 02's are working but one is alittle lazy. i believe both are original. But not sure.

How can i check if one of my cop's are bad with no cel?

I cann't believe you drove the car for almost a year getting 11 mpg and that didn't raise a red flag. When you said you checked the plugs did that mean you checked for oil in the wells or actually pulled all out and looked at them. I'd like to know what an 11 mpg mark's plugs look like after a year.

We have almost the same car. My norm is an average of 17-19 mpg with little highway driving. Have you checked to see if the computer is wrong on the average mpg at fill up.

Well 6 will look used and two will look wet and stink of gas.

i knew there was sumtin wrong from the begining but i dont have a job and didnt no were to start seeing as there werent any codes. didnt want to go throwing money around trying to figure out the prob.

i didnt take the plugs out(but made sure they werent loose) but i checked for water/oil in the plug holes and they were fine. cops had no cracks in them and seemed fine. and i put more di-electric grese on them.
Maf was cleaned last year.

the misfire happened overnite. the mpg as i stated happened when i took it out this spring after storage. I took it off the tune and the mpg's didnt change so i dont beleive its that.

I would bet you need new plugs now. Thats most likly why you have a miss but that doesn't help getting it fixed. If it was mine I would be scared the piston rings are getting washed from fuel in some cylinders. I'd check the plugs to see if any plugs are wet. Start the car and let run for a little bit then check all. This could narrow down your possiblities.

What did the old plugs look like?

Your missfire is a cop I would guess.
But 11 MPG the car has issues.
If your plugs are new pull them out one at a time and look for the wet stinky one, that be the hole with the fubar cop.

Just wondering how did you know something was bad from the start?
I understand you have a cash flow problem but some problems can be tracked down for free.

Now fixin them thats a whole different story.

well the plugs were changed with autolite coppers but the ones the original owner had put in were fine color wise. some were alittle out of gap but thats norm. not a big diff though.

the mpg started when i took it out for the summer. the misfire started much later and i stoped driving it shortly there after.

I'll check the plug deal i guess. thanks

This thread has me scared. I get around 15mpg. (in city and some highway) Last time I changed the plugs (8 mths ago) they all looked fine but some were out of spec like OP said. what is COP?

cop = coil on plug, they are reffering to the ignition coils. my guess is you have a dead coil, or more than one. its easy to find out, take the covers off the coils, and start the car and 1 at a time lift the coil off the plug about an inch, you will hear the arc big time, you'll know if it is firing, if you lift a coil and dont hear anything, you have a dead coil. and no you wont get jolted from the coil, just lift each coil by the electical plug, all you have to do is lift them up about an inch, dont take them totally out or the arc could jump to something else or yourself.
