Might need a Engine

The other day I was warming up my Ls and it ran for about 2 min made some crazy noises and shut off would not start after that. Might have seized up on me. Im just curios if my car should be in Neutral to check flywheel, removed starter but cant get flywheel to turn. Should I pull belts?
90% of this car has been replaced.

Put socket on crankshaft pulley bolt. You should be able to rotate the engine with a ratchet or breaker bar.
