Memphis audio

I usually stay out of the car stereo feedback but I rarely see anyone give feedback based on what the op tends to listen to musically(or even ask and form a response based on similar tastes). Not every speaker plays the same. For instance, years ago I loved G&S Redline, when they were originally owned, for pop and rap but over the years have grown to like Focal and even higher end JBL GTI's(in my car now). Lastly, I hear a lot about power but rarely hear what type of sound processor or equalizers are being used to tailor sound to listener preference. I use an Audiocontrol EQL but have an Audiocontrol Epic 150 for instances when I listen to older analog recordings and decide that I may want to punch up the bass a bit.

What equalizers are others using?

I agree with your point on finding out what type of music the owner listens to. That would make a big difference in recommendations for what equipment to go with. And DEFINITELY hear you on Focal equipment. Really great stuff. But, I can't bring myself to spend that much on component speakers. I'm sure they are worth it to the right person, just too expensive for me. Sometimes it's also about finding the best within a certain budget.

I'm only using the EQ on my Kenwood Excelon DDX 7015. Music sounds just fine for me. Could it be better? Probably. But isn't current technology of some of the higher end head units enough that separate processors and EQ's are essentially unnecessary unless you are a true audiophile? And in that case, a moving vehicle really isn't an audiophile's dream room for listening to every nuance at the perfect level, as background noise is virtually unavoidable, and does fight with the acoustics inside the vehicle. And don't even get me started an stock speaker placements. Pursuing a perfect audio experience in an automobile, at least for ME, seems like a waste.

I'd be much more inclined to perfectly enhance my home theater than my car.

Just my .02, and worth about as much.

I wish I could put some info on the equalizers I used in my first Tiburon , which also had four Memphis 12" s in it's trunk. But I did have a knob box up front by the gear selector. I never messed with it though. My friend Chad would adjust it . I had that car for a very short time. Eleven months to be exact. Thanks to a drunk driver.

I hear you Pek and I agree. I have always preferred to have a few more bands of equalization because certain midrange frequencies get too harsh for my ears at louder volumes and I prefer to manage them a bit more effectively. Don't even get me started on my home theater tastes. Thank God I have not gotten the bug lately to have a newer one...meaning I am due. LOL.

Oops...didn't mean to waste a post but I did. User error. Sorry. LOL.

Most are using the built in EQ's.

Thats a nice single din setup although i prefer double din.

what do you have for subs???

Thx.......

Currently, one JL Audio 12w6. I am not overly concerned with loudness so I did not go with multiple woofers.

I am a fan of Memphis, have installed Memphis exclusively for years in my cars, and always recommend it. I used to go to USACI competitions in Florida, and have hit 142.7 db, with a termlab mic, metered in the sphere running 2 15" power reference subs, with a power reference 1000 watt amp. 125 a speaker, and 250 for the amp, new. one of the subs finally blew, after only 3 years of beating it like a red-headed stepchild. I never hit below a 141 with the setup, in different cars, and different boxes. it sounded good too.
