Mechanics can be PRICY too..

So far: this has what has been damaged on my car while at a mechanic shop.

(besides scratches in my brand new paint )

1. Rear transmission housing cracked. 430$
2. Strut stripped -- cost -- 2 new struts 160$ + 50$ lost on the payment for ruining my old strut and 65$ on putting the springs on a the new struts.
total cost: 275$ - 65$ so 210$
3. Crushed seal on rack and pinion: Cost 490$

TOTAL: 1030$ in mechanic mistakes.

Ohh woe is me.

Not reached the crossroads yet. Getting the car back from the mechanic tomorrow. It's drivable but was leaking a TON of power steering fluid.

So what your really saying is your guy broke all that stuff on your car that was good and charged you to fix what he broke. Does not sound cool to me.

No, I'm saying 3 seperate shops broke all that stuff and I'm taking it to a shop I've found that I trust.

1. The rear housing of the transmission was broke by a shop and I took it to this shop (the one I trust) to fix it. That's how I found them.
2. Putting the springs on struts is something every shop should be able to do without :q:q:q:qing them up so I took them to the cheapest one.
3. The power steering leak was done by a well respected shop in the area that does only alignment. Don't know what to say about that one. I'm talking to a friend about claiming on their insurance. The shop my car is at right now took pictures with a telescoping camera of the damage and we'll see what happens. Though I doubt anything.

this is pretty much why i do all my own work. i'm far more careful (and probably intelligent ) than the bozo who would wrenching on my car at the shop.

plus i like a good challenge. which this car gives me on a regular basis.

No doubt.

I've learned quite a bit on my car. The only thing left that I'd like to do are:
1. pull the rugs out and put in some type of silencing material.
2. pull the engine/transmission and replace everything that is going to go out in the next year (possibly do a rebuild)


in the near future.. I liked your thread about intake cleaning. Just; as I'm a noob to opening up an engine (since I was 18 and replaced the heads on my 65 mustang) I'd like a walk through and pictures.

Also: I told my mechanic about that and he laughed and said, "yea, we tallied that up also. It's in the system. "
