Gen 2's need a tune, bad. :shifty:
Just bolt-ons and tuning for mine, and it's just a bit quicker than that silver one above.![]()
The Mark VIII is a heavy car dude and you are comparing apples to oranges. Not to mention, these cars were aimed towards an older demographic and they rolled out of the factory even slower yet for the 97-98 models. They come with highway gearing and a lazy shifting transmission.
It needs a swift kick in the ass to get going. Gears, stall converter and full exhaust is good for starters.
Here is mine with just bolt-ons. No nitrous, no blower, no turbo:

And I'm not even dyno-tuned yet and running on a chitty mail order tune. I'll have low 13s this year.
You might be interested in checking out the link to Don Pfau's videos. He has a blower and meth injection with bolt-ons and his car spanks Mustangs of many sorts regularly and he is not even in the teens for boost yet.
I may be out of it what is jmodded.also did you change the chip and not use a tuner?
That is the "Jerry Mod" for short. Jerry Wroblewski, a Ford engineer, came up with this modification. It is the drilling out of particular holes in the separator plate attached to the top of the valve body which increases fluid flow. Do a search and you will find PLENTY about it. You do not have to drop the tranny to do this, just the valve body. I bought a separator plate already done up but you can do it on your own for cheap. That eliminates the "lazy shifting" part of these cars. Everything else is just bolt-ons.

For your 93 I would recommend a Dirty Dog Valve Body. I bought mine from SCP but you can deal with Alan directly. He advertises on Super Coupe Club of America. I'll see if I can find it. Here you go http://www.dirtydogperformance.com/ You can call him for help on the install to. He sells divider plates for the 97-98 Marks also which he claims is better than just the Jerry mod. I bought one for my 98 LSC. PS While your in there convert it to mercon 5 and if you can add a cooler.
I think maybe a larger stand alone unit.

I have had an email exchange with Alan. He says it's not worth doing anything to the tranny as it's nearly toast already.
It slips only rarely and only when it's hot. The tranny fluid is pink and unburned. I have read opinion online that as long as the tranny is not burned it's worth flushing.
I'm not sure what to do now. I can replace the tranny in the winter and have thought I might spring for a stage 2 here:

But I'm not really ready to do it before then.
Are you going to be running turbo, blower or NOS? If not just buy a nice low mileage 1998 trans($250ish) and be done.
My stock 98 4r70w has taken a beating with the 4.30 gears and the nitrous over the years and it is still keeps on ticking at 120k miles (knock on wood). Just keep fresh Mobil 1 Mercon 5 in it and good tuning and it's good to go.
So could driving around with traction control on all the time cause problems? It feels better with it off for sure.
Yeah I'm sure you guys are right. Anyway I'm going to start looking for trannys and see what I can find.
So I have shudder only at low speed with hot fluid. I just realized I have to turn my traction control "off", I had never touched the button before. So could driving around with traction control on all the time cause problems? It feels better with it off for sure.
Most gen 1 Mark VIII's have a low speed shudder. A lot of this is cured with fresh Mercon 5 (I like Mobil 1) tranny flush. I would try that first before getting a new tranny.
That's what makes me suspect it. I never have shudder over 30 mph. Only in first and second.only if you have an issue with the traction control. like a bad or dirty sensor, and its only active through like 30 mph on first gens. 2nd gens are all speed trac control.
