Mark VIII Performance

Add the 1000$ to replace all the normal wear and tear stuff...

Just hit it with a 75 shot, $100 for a walbro 255, $320 or so for a nitrous kit from eBay.

Come on, N2O is no challenge. It's like atheletes using steroids- no fun for me, anyways.

Build a shortblock and blow 12psi through it :gr_devil:

I meant 350-370 at the crank...
I'd prefer to keep it NA...(no NOS, or superchargers)
what about getting it to about 330 hp?
how much would I have to spend?

Assuming you have 280-290 stock.
A chip, a new exhaust, and maybe some breathing improvements should about do it. That's not too difficult or expensive. Probably $1500.

How much do you guys think it would cost to get 350 at the wheels? Assuming you are willing to put a blower on...

See my above post.

Okay, that will fall into a more reasonable category.

330hp at the crank;

03 cobra heads ($1500 pair new stock)
03 Cobra cams ($500 a set for stock)
01 Cobra intake (ebay, $500)
Kooks headers ($600)
Custom tune ($500)

Of course, the transmission will definately need attention.

I don't think you need all that to get an additionall 50 hp - I think full exhaust and chip would be enough, no need to swap heads....

Don't run any kind of underdrive pulleys on your Mark VIII or any 4.6 DOHC for that matter. Overtime they break your oil pump gears. The 10 or so horsepower you gain is not worth it in the end because you might need an engine rebuild. With that said, I ran pulleys for over 50k miles with no problems but many others with Cobras have not been as lucky. It may have something to do with how high you rev it as well.

I also heard that some 95 LSC's are OBD 2...is that true?

Some late-model 1995's had some OBD-II components, but not all.

ah, ok...
is it just as easy to chip a 93-95 mark VIII as a 96-98?

I've read that 93-94 respond better to chips than other model years.

The '93s were the fastest simply because they had the most aggressive tune coming from the factory. Then they backed off the tune in the '94-'96 years.

It is hard to say on the '97-'98 with the new intake design. 'Supposedly' they are not as effective in sucking air as the Gen 1. The factory still rated the motor the same as far as h.p. but that might have just been for convenience.

What we need is 2 'stock' Mark VIIIs from each vintage with corrected dynos to see where the numbers are really at.
