hey everyone, on my mark viii,

This wednesday i am replacing the entire front subframe/k-member, with one from my 95 that i built up. i also have to replace the transmission extension housing seal, and was wondering if my diff mount may be a problem while doing so.

I intend to drop the diff and slide the ds out from above it.
however currently when i change gears i can see the diff moving up and down depending on the gear, one way in reverse, one way in drive.. what bushing or mount would cause this? And would it run the risk of breaking further when i drop it.

Im only doing all of this due to having to drive cross country in saturday (funeral in MI, im in GA)

Thanks
Jake

there are 3 diff bushings. 2 bolt through the diff on either side of the pinion tube. you can replace these bushings and that should fix the problem.

i removed the bushings and shortened the metal sleeve to increase the preload. worked fine.

there is also a big one in the back. but mine looks alright at 200k, so idk if its a problem.

If you ever saw the amount a leaf spring cars rear moves up and down you would freak compared to the 1/4 inch yours is moving. But like chris said you can shorten tube in front ones or buy poly bushings. Stiffer.

i think i spoke wrong, i meant it is rotating, the whole chunk, as in changing pinion/driveshaft angle under load...

also, Had the heater core fail mere minutes ago so i have nothing but time now.

I know what you meant. Some leaf spring car rear does that in inches. LOL Did heater core dump in interior?

Yea it went fairly quickly
brother has (small) burns on his foot (was barefoot). Managed to make the last 2 blocks home. Pass floor soaked and windows fogged like heck.

Sounds like you just need new front bushings.

Man sorry to hear about your bro. If you want to you can just loop the hoses in engine compartment to drive car in warm weather.
