Magnaflow Kit Install

I searched around a little bit and didn't find an answer so I'll just ask outright.

Those of you that have installed the Magnaflow catback on your gen 1's, How easy was it to separate the factory H pipe from the cats when you got the claps off? Did you need a torch?

If I'm going to end up taking it to a shop I think I'll just get aftermarket mufflers put in as opposed to coughing up the cash for that expensive kit.
 
I put aftermarket mufflers on. Only problem is they got welded to the body so now to replace the cats (which I have to do) I have to cut the mufflers off. Super gay. Good luck.
 
Another route is to pick up some mufflers and maybe get some cheap work from a place like Muffler Doctor or any place that does dual exhaust for cheap.

My friends 96 Caprice SS has Magnaflow mufflers with (I think) stainless steel tubing done from a shop not to far from here, sounds real nice with that LT1

Even if you just checked out a shop, see what parts they can keep or need to fab along with mufflers / cats, guaranteed cheaper than the kit, with almost same performance and sound.
 
There's no reason to have someone else do your Magnaflow job if you're reasonably handy. After removing the clamps at the cat-extension interface, It just a few medium taps on the pipes to get them loose. I took everything apart, starting with the mufflers. Used a hoist, but had everything loose and off within about 20 minutes. It's just a little work. I'm more than satisfied with the set-up on my '02 V-8.

The Magnaflow is a direct bolt-on. Just loosen the front clamps, remove the hangars from the brackets and drop out the old system. It takes an hour or so in your garage to install the Magnaflow.
 
I'm liking the idea of just getting mufflers and having them installed. I had a chain muffler shop really botch the exhaust on my Jeep so I've been trying to steer clear of that. I might just buy the kit to avoid getting raped at a shop...
