Mach 1 spoiler

"blue ls im going for that look. i messed up my factory lower valance so this is a perfect excuse to tell the wife this needs to be replaced"

I'm glad someone else is in that same boat!!!

^^^

LOL, i always need an excuse. like now that i'm going to get my back bumper painted i told my wife "well now i need to put a camera back there so i can protect it from me running into things", eventho i've never once hit anything with it, lol. gotta use what you got sometimes

I had a run of home improvements a few years ago, and every project required a tool, one I didnt have, to complete it.
Now I have a whole bunch of cool tools that I didnt have before, and they came out of my wife's home improvement buget. Not mine...:D

Speaking of cameras, does anyone know of a prox. sensor kit for cars?
I would like to put that chin spoiler on my lowered LS, but those dern curbs would play havoc with that chin lip, and a couple of sensors tucked into the lower grill, with a simple buzzer, would be worth their weight in gold.
I will check it out, and get back to us.

When i first put mine on i was running it into curbs constantly. But it's not a big deal, it's externally flexible. It will just bend back on it's own.

As far as the stock valance, that is the reason i bough the lip. The stock valance was gone when i bought my car and it looked like crap, you could look at my car and tell there was somthing missing. The lip was just going to be temporary untill i got a full body kit, but i like it the way it is.

The only other thing i am going to change is the rear valance to the LSE valance. Anyone know where i can find one?

They are extremly flexible. Mine came folded up in a 8"x20" box. I got it from stangmods.com for about $100 shipped (and they are in maryland, so i got it the next day, Bonus!)

When it was then unfolded did it have any creases or stress marks in it?

Now I wonder, would it be feasible to paint it? I like the look of it, but I'm going to paint all the black trim at the bottom silver to match my car and hopefully give it a more "grounded" look.

Be careful with the curbs...this Mach-1 Lips are extremely fragile when it comes to curb rash they tend to fold in some way

I did alot of research before i bought mine and i'll tell you what i know. There are oem Ford versions and reproduced knock-offs. You definately dont want one that gets shipped folded up. If its an authentic oem mach 1 spoiler it will come in a big rectangle box about 3'x4' with the Ford part number on it. Its a big enough box that it wont fit in your LS's trunk. Mine isnt wavy or twisty or anything. If you get one thats shipped folded i cant see how it wont be all distorted when you go to install it. The oem version is the exact same plastic that is used on the LS. Before you buy one i would suggest you lift your car up and take a look at the front valance and all the bolts and how everything fits together. Pretty much the entire front bumper, wheel well, undercarriage is plastic and bolted together and i dont know if its changed anything will affect the integrity of the front end. Just a thought.

No creases or marks. Like i said, it is etreamly flexible. I unfolded it an you could never tell that it was folded up in the first place. I dont know about painint it, because it is so flexible, It will propably chip off. You would proably need to dye it.

It came in a bag with the P/N on it and with all of the plastic clips and everything. As far as i could tell, it is the OEM, it just came folded up in a smaller box.

But in anycase, i like the one that i have because it is so flexiable, i can run it into a curb and not have to worry about it cracking or breaking.

I looked online.
Those parking sensors are dime a dozen, online. From about $70-$a couple hundred bucks, depending on what you want.
I think I am going to get a kit, and experiment.

I don't know very much about body modifications but curious about something... On my '06 bumper, would it be possible to have a body shop mold the spoiler for a more permanent fit? I figure since I want the bumper holes (4 of them) filled in, while the bumper is being striped of paint and filled and painted over, they could mold the spoiler too.

The spoiler is very flexible but it is molded in a certain shape and only gives so much. I just looked at the front bumper of the '06 and i think it would be pretty tough. There are two curves under the foglights that i think would prevent it from installing correctly. The lip itself has a curve and angle to it and when you alter the way it fits it becomes distorted looking. Bodyshops can do some great things so its probably not entirely impossible but i cant see it being easy. I think they could cut and trim your factory bumper to make it fit better but thats still going to be alot of work. As far as painting, it seems like its made of a compound that wouldnt allow paint to adhere well and would most certainly chip. I was planning on using some strong double-sided 3M auto trim tape but it wouldnt stick to the spoiler for nothing.

One other note, since having the chin spoiler on my car i have grounded out on some steep driveways or entrances, on some speed bumps and some parking lot cement things. None as damaged, altered or affected the spoiler. If its installed securely i think it'll hold up well.
