im looking for a picture of the stock LS8 exhaust and cant find one. does anyone have a picture like this? i would really appreciate it if i could get a link or someone post a pic here for me.

also how bad does the computer go crazy when you start messing with the exhaust on these things. anyone have someone that "tunes" them?

the computer doesn't care what is done to the exhaust post cats. and doesnt go crazy without them
 
In my experience on the forum, no one has had any concerns with the ecu reacting negatively toward only an exhaust change. I run a Magnaflow catback on my 2000. Torrie McPhall at www.fastpartsnetwork.com is a contact for an Xcal and tune.
 
so i need to leave the cats alone then? i was thinking about ditching them. i still would like a picture of the full stock exhaust. is there any resonators/silencers on there or just Cats/Mufflers? ive heard alot of LS8 exhaust that sounds terrible bc there is so much back pressure that it sounds muffled and weird. im coming from small block fords and LS1s where i have done everything under the sun and know what sounds good and performs on them. this car has a nice exhaust "profile" that i would like to bring out, im a fan of flowmasters on anything non-race oriented. figured i would try some 40s but need to make it flow more freely so i dont have that hesitation/muffled sound. ive never had cats on any performance vehicles and always just tuned them afterwards.
 
I have an 02 exhaust from the cat back sitting on the side of my shed. The original car was stolen and when it went time to repair it the parts that were salvageable were kept. If you want, when I get off shift I can snap a pic. I am pulling a 36 hr shift, so by the time I get home it will be too dark. I can snap one Sat morning. let me know, and send me a PM and I can send it to you from my phone to your email or text it to you. Not too savvy at U/L pics yet.
 
most leave the cat's alone... Youtube has a lot of different set ups you can watch/listen to.... What do you need the pic of the stock for? I dont have one but my other LS still has stock exhaust. I can grab a pic if you needing it ON the car... anything in particular your looking for though?
 
just want to see what all the exhaust entails. cats/silencers/bends/ect..
 
what? no lol. my garage is 20min away and my wife drives the car, just hard to get it and drive across town just to jack it up and glance at the exhaust...

i was looking for stock pictures. i heard one with just cats and no mufflers and it wasnt too bad sounding.
 
The first two pictures are stock....taken right after the car was raised onto the ramp.

The second two are aftermarket.
 
there are cats, resonators, and mufflers... Some run without the mufflers, myself included, and just run pipes after the dif. But many other setups out there.

nope, drives exact same... very low, quite rumble at idle. louder at higher rpms... just depends what your looking for. I enjoy the tone... but also like the sound of others magnas and flows

i had mine cut and it gave me a lag and destroyed my gas mileage im thinking about doing what nyc did and just put a mid muffler and see how that feels

depends on how much its clogged. i cut mine so they could go back on at anytime... i may switch it back for the winter... If i do i'll let you know if there was a difference

Not always.

And maybe with the mufflers on there was enough backpresure to force it out. Without the mufflers, no backpressure hence the lag.

But im no expert.

i did about the same i now have welded them back on though
 
There seems to be some confusion and a misapprehension or two running around.

1. Back pressure is never a good thing. An engine can be tuned so as to run in spite of the fact that the exhaust system design is such there is back pressure. But back pressure, by definition, is an inability for exhaust to get out of the engine. If the exhaust can't get out, there is an impediment in a fresh air/fuel charge getting in.

2. The natural result of freeing-up the path available for exhaust to get out of an engine is to lean-out the air/fuel charge. You must now re-tune to put things back in balance. In the case of the Lincoln LS, the ECM automatically does so for you over a short period of time. When the re-tune is complete, you'll have a better-running engine and far greater efficiency. And with an SCT unit to improve even further on the tune you'll go around with a big smile on your face.

ken, i disagree with the statement of back pressure never being a good thing.

i build two strokes, chainsaws mainly....

two stroke engines need the back pressure to keep the charge of fuel and air in the cylinder. which is why expansion pipes are used. the pipe is built to use the exhaust waves to pull the exhaust out of the cylinder and use back pressure to force the escaped charge of fuel back into the chamber with greater pressure.

granted this has nothing to do lincolns, i felt the need to explain it.
 
chainsaws also dont have computers taking readings thousands of times a second, cup holders, or seats that keep your ass hot.
