Error Code P0775 = Pressure Control Solenoid B (5R55S transmission)

Extreme high reving without shift from 1 to 2, but shifts if you "hover" between 2K-3K rpm. Will not shift into 5 either using Select Shift or on Auto--gives Check Transmission Warning, but only once you've tried one of the above shifts. As long as you Select Shift only from 2 to 3 to 4 and back, it gives no warning.

Since it had already been driven once the check tranny/check engine lights came on... I've kept on driving it while trying to find a solenoid pack for less than CAD$400 and round out somone to help me install.

There is definitely some loss of "power". Car also seems to have a "hard time" continuing in the higher geer. e.g. after a shift from 2-3 at 3K rpm; rpms fall to below 2K before picking up again under low accellaration.

The other day on the highway it would drop rpms when gas was not being applied, even though it was in gear. It was acting as if placed in neutral (roping from 3+K to just under 1K) when gas wasn't applied and would only "drive up again" when rpms would go up to 2K-3K. This was not repeated the next day, but fuel consumption is WAY WAY up and it feels like it is not going at a speed comensurate to the gear/rpm.

So, the first question is: does it sound like it is just the solenoid, or does it sound like much more than that?

Second questions is: I got the local Ford Dealer to look up the car's repair records on OASIS. Under warranty at 12,500 miles and 20,500 miles the solenoid pack was replaced (once called pressure, once shift, but it is still one solenoid pack).

Still under warranty the transmission was brought in over 8 times by the previous owner, but usually sent out as no fault found (complains: delays when engaging in reverse, or loud clunks at various situations). The PCM has been re-flashed to the lates Ford PCM program (at least as of 40K miles and two years ago).

Since I've had the car there have been no delays into reverse, but there are definitely clunks when gearing down from speed to a "slow down" and then re-accellerating without coming to a complete stop.

Also clunks when shifting from 2 to 3.

The car is now at 63,500 miles.

This will be either the third or fourth solenoid pack (I didn't "catch" the full repair info for a "minor rebuilt" at 31,000 miles).

I don't think solenoid packs should need to be changed more often than brake pads... any ideas about what may be going on and advice what to do?

Third question: is there a "trusted" transmission rebuilder in the forum. Someone I can trust to actually replace all the parts that should be beefed up as opposed to only doing the minimal rebuild. What would such a job cost?

And yes, i do love the LS's handling/ride... so I don't want to get rid of it... just repair it!

Bobo123 i couldnt have written this better.. Sounds exactly how my car is.. Also when you on the freeway are your RPM's higher than normal? around 70 its's past 3000 RPMs usually its below 2500. So i Kno something. is wrong. and it's very jerky. and then the check transmission flashes..

and rubberducky i just changed my silenoid pack in october. but i was reading and it says that the VCG go out at around 90k miles. and im at 95k. and still havent done a transmission flush..

but

Ok guys, girls, got the Hot Rod Lincoln back today and heres the damage.... Ready...

Trans Test, flush, Solenoid Body Replacement, Filter, and new fluid, Check bands and Flush converter all came up to a total of $923.20.

Solenoid body = $481.07
Filter Asy= $28.60
10 qts. of Merc. 5 Trans Fluid = $55.20
Labor = $299.60
Misc Shop Screw Charges = $17.93
All Equals BIG CREDIT CARD BILL AND FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN LOVE WITH EXHAUST ON LINCOLN LS.

WOW!!!!!!!

900 dollars is not something i have right now..

Diagnostic Results.

P0732 Gear 2 incorrect shift ratio.
P0735 Gear 5 incorrect shift ratio
P0775 Pressure control solenoid B

Called ford and was quoted $67.75 and I hope i heard him correctly on that price because i know this is a 400 dollar job..

Dubbed_LS:

Our symptoms ARE very similar, though my P0775 Pressure control solenoid B code, comes without the gear 2 and 5 incorrect shift ratio codes.

Your highway rpm increase from 2.5K to 3K @ 70mph could be attributed to a lack of overdrive as you are probably not entering 5th gear.

In my case I am complaining that the RPMs are high for the particular gear and speed. i.e. I am hitting more than 3K rpm in 4th gear at below 60mph (90-95KM/h).

I am sorry to tell you that I don't see how either you or I will get away with spending less than $900!

The "official" price here is $460.00 for the solenoid; $129 to drop the pan & first hour, $119 an hour after. Add 10 liters of Mercon 5; a filter; shop supplies, and a tax or two... With an average 4 hour + to repair, I don't see me walking away at less than $1,250 from the dealership.

Even if you do it yourself (and from what I hear filing the tranny is not easy), you are looking at more than $300 after shipping for a "third party" solenoid + cost of fluid, filter, and time to do it... probably a good $500!

WHAT BURNS ME THOUGH IS THAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW REPLACING THE SOLENOID IS THE REAL ANSWER. (is there an answer?)

Here is the DEALERSHIP service history of my car's tranny:

16,919 (27,000km) Top up fluid level and tests OK (1 hour)

21,459 (34,335 km) Replace Solenoid Body, Replace VSS Sensor, Refill Trans, Reconfigure Trans, Confirm PCM latest, Road test (4.4 hours)

31,187 (49,900km) Re re Trans pan, re and re Valve Body, replace Shift Solenoid block, clean re-usable pan gasket, Reprogram PCM, Road test (4.6 hours)

64,000 (102,500km)... As per codes: solenoid block is gone again... what else is gone who knows...

2 x solenoid bodies, 1 x VSS sensor, 1 x Valve Body, 1 Reprogram AND now the solenoid body is gone again... during 64,000 miles.

I drive 15,000-18,000 milles a year... am I just supposed to budget $1,250 per year for tranny repairs?

WHY IS THE EFFING TRANNY DYING... and HOW DO I FIX IT?

i called AAMCO and they said they will get everything done around 400 bucks. cause their part pressure control solenoid also known as the shift control solenoid is about 49 bucks. and it will take 2 hours to do so 200 for that. and a 189 transmission flush..

What the F :q :q :q ?

I've talked to two parts people and at least two transmission specialists... and they ALL have said: The "Pressure control solenoid" ONLY comes in a complete pack/assembly/solenoid body... no way to get just the one.

Price $230-$460 (mail order -- dealership... with a lot in between) for the part.

When are you taking yours in? Let me know what happens?

Does anyone on this board know what's the deal with this solenoid business? How common is it?

Is there a transmission rebuilder around who is "known" and trusted by people?

hahah. when ever 400 bucks come in. but yea someone else who knows about transmissions please CHIME in and send me in the right direction.. because this has been less than a year but 20k miles and im not trying to do this every 20k miles.

Just called AAMCO locally and they quoted me "high 3's, low 4's, do you want us to get an exact price for the Solenoid Block! (sorry, can't get the solenoid by itself!)

Do you happen to have a phone number for your local AAMCO that is quoting you the $49 just for the part?

I will call them to see if they will sell the part to me!

Cheers.

Dubbed_LS: I need a wake-up pill! You have a 2000 Gen 1 LS probably 5R55N, i have a 2003 Gen 2 5R55S as per the title! This probably explains how you can get a single solenoid... while I need to get the complete block!

WOW!!!!!!!

900 dollars is not something i have right now..

hey man, i hate to tell ya but neither did i, i know my credit car company is gonna love me for a while though. but its great now. and its beats a 3000 dollar trans rebuild

thanks to all u guys are a big help!!

ive just left it in the garage and took it out ONLY if necessary..

do u guys know if driving it would cause more damage!

i was told yes. so i used sport shift until i got it fixed doesnt allow it to slip as bad just delays the shift

mine didnt get bad enough to throw a code. they told me that if it was, thats was bad. i must of caught it early enough

WHY IS THE EFFING TRANNY DYING...
Someone beat the crap out of it before you got the car.
and HOW DO I FIX IT?
Replace it.

Seriously, it sounds like the trans was just faulty form the get go, or someone has beat the living crap out of it. You can rebuild it if you want, but IMO it should be replaced with one from a junkyard car (one with fairly (50 - 60k) low miles that's in the yard because the car got wrecked)
