Hi there,
This is my first post and i have browsed the fourms to find any anwsers i can for my question have compiled alot of knowledge. So ill make this as painless as i can and any help/knowledge/advice is always appriciated.
As my user name suggest i dont actually own an LS lol, i own a mustang lol. But the lady who was nice enough to give my son and i a roof over our head when i got back from deployment and discharged and fell on some rough times owns an LS.
This 2002 V6 3.0 LS had quite a few issues when i first looked at it. Various leaks to fixed, misfiring coil packs fixed, out of time fixed, cam and crank sensors malfunctioning and fixed, a couple wires caught in a misalinged belt and torn fixed, misaligned belt fixed. This car wasnt taken car of to well before she got it and she couldnt afford a shop to fix it so when i moved in our arrangement was perfect. She buys the parts, i turn the wrenchs and dont pay rent lol.(i am a factory trained tech so i do know my way around a motor lol).
Anyways the current problem is the hydro pump for the fan is leaking like crazy and needs to be replaced. After abit of research and discussing with the her we have agreed versuses replacing the pump a better and more money agreeable option would be to convert to an electric fan. only a couple questions though im unclear on.
1. Obviously with the pump leaking i cant just loop it to keep the pulley in the system. So im planning on using the post for converting the pump into an idler pulley which is very smart i might add, points to the poster of the that. But i was wondering if anyone has any succesful attempts with deleting the pump/pulley all together and rerouting the belt?
2. Fan controls, What would be wiser to use a probe to just turn the fan on and off at a certain temp or to attempt to install a controller for proper control of variable speed and on and off. Has anyone had an success with that?
3. Also any recommendations on what fan/kits/controls to purchase?
I am sorry for the long post, i just wanted to cover all my basis in one post instead of multiple post and give as much information as i could think of.
Any Help/Recommendations/Advice is always greatly appriciated, This is actually the first LS i have worked on for the most part its a really easy car to work on and a very nice car at that but i do prefer my mustangs lol, but this has been a nice car to drive and work on and im considering buying one to drive in style when i dont feel like burning up my tires in the mustang.
Thank you for your time and any help.
