Ive had my LS for a good 6 years now. Its a 2001 LSV8 sport and it has done well for me over the years. recently though its had a problem. it had been sitting for a while and the car would start but then die out. my mechanic determiend it was the altenator going bad so we replaced that. after that the light charge came on and the charge message was on. no voltage. I replaced it with an OEM ford battery. now its at 14.2 volts and 14.1 draw. after about ten minutes lights message came on. car still at 14.2. do I need the ford dealer to re flash the PCM? The dealer said that, that cannot be the problem acording to the mitchell.

anybody?

This doesn't seem like the sort of thing that a re-flash of the PCM would help, but I suppose it is possible. It's more likely to be something else. The first thing to do would be to check all of the wiring to the alternator. Two of the wires are signals between the PCM and the alternator. Other things to check would be the alternator itself, and the drive belt. The factory service manual gives good guidance on how to troubleshoot this problem, but I only have the gen II manuals. Maybe someone with a gen I manual can help.
