LS got smacked

Sorry to hear about it, dude. I know when I wrecked my LS I was praying they totalled it out. These cars have enough things that can and will go wrong already, don't need a 100 more. Hope you get another LS - it's a great time to be buying one.

I guess this is one situation where the low value of the LS could work to your advantage as far as getting it totaled vs. repaired. I think your situation is a great testimony for the safety of the LS. My wife is constantly talked crap about the my LS but she just doesnt understand how damn important it is to have a car that can withstand a beating, and i'm sure a Suburban can deliver a beating. Couple questions...

How fast was the impact?

Did the side airbags go off?

If there would have been a passenger how do you think they would have held up?

How much damage was there to the Suburban?

more importantly... this is another LS wreck... how was the sunroof? LMAO ford sunroofs never get smashed

The impact was about dead on around 25mph straight from the side. The body panels did exactly what they were supposed to do and absorbed most of the impact. The airbags didn't go off, and a passenger would have been fine. Suburban has like a few little dents on the front bumper

Well, if you have the opportunity-or should I say if your stuck parting it out I'll be proud to own a few parts.

what about the sunroof? ive never seen an LS or a fomoco with a smashed in sunroof!

i can agree with this! ;)

I haven't been around here in a while, but man that really sucks! It's truly good that you're ok. The LS is a very safe car indeed. But man oh man, I cannot fathom someone hitting mine. Actually, I take that back. The week we got it, my brother hit the left rear bumper TWICE while backing out of the driveway. First time didn't do so much, but the second time, when damage showed up, I nearly punched him out. If someone hit me, I don't even want to get into that...anyways, good luck getting that all sorted out. It's unnerving as hell to get hit by someone, but glad to hear you're ok.

The body isn't even cold yet and you guys are pulling off its boots! Geez.

Sorry about your luck. From my experience the worst part is that it suddenly completely complicates your life having to find another ride, having to deal with insurance, etc. The loss of the car is a small part. Of course, the only thing I ever wrecked was the old ford Ranger. And we just rolled it back over, dusted it off and drove home. My wife on the other hand. . . She's left a trail of destruction and broken dreams. :D

Good news, I talked to insurance and they said that if it is totaled they give more than its worth based on condition and maintenance, so thats gotta be some nice pocket change for me there. The paintwork was in great condition except for one small chip in the clearcoat, but luckily that was the side that got demolished so it you can't see that anymore haha. I have choices to send it to different companies to be repaired, and I think I'm gonna send it to the most expensive one just for the fact that they might total it due to the high cost. I'll keep you updated.

My local Lincoln dealer has a body shop so thats where i would take mine if it was wrecked. I cant see an independant being more expensive than a dealership, and hopefully they would put on original parts and not junk yard parts.

So for instance if you wanted it to be totaled, that's where you would take it?

You know, you could just have a body shop look at it, tell them you don't really wanna keep it, so don't skimp on any of the estimate. They are normally willing to work with you both ways. If you want it done cheap, they can quote just the necessary repairs. If you want it COMPLETE 100% restored, tehy can do that price too.

Whenever I had an insurance claim, I would tell them that since it's insured, spare no expense. That's what I pay insurance for. Then when the insurance cuts the check, I take a look at the estimate and only have the shop perform the work I want done. That more than covers any deductible :D

AbsoDamnlutely.... I had a Pontiac Trans Am and when i wrecked it i sent it to a Pontiac dealer, it was totaled. Before that accident someone hit the rear/side of the T/A, i had it repaired by Progressive who sent it to one of "their" repair facilities. The car came back and had a fuel vapor smell that never went away, i think some kind of evaporation connection was never done properly. After that i will never go that route again, the insurance companies have "their" facilities which are used to purposely keep the costs down. When my wife got into an accident a few years ago i had her car (Dodge Intrepid) towed to a Chrysler/Dodge dealer and the repair was pretty damn expensive. The good thing is they used brand new replacement parts which are oem. I know alot of independents will acquire used parts and use them, thats something i wouldnt want done to an LS. Its your car and you have every right to determine where the car goes and how it gets repaired.
