Well, there comes a time for any car owner to wonder if she's worth saving or just move along. Don't get me wrong - A good car for my last 5 years or so, 02 LS sport, 113 miles (~185km) but time and space are now at a premium for the attention needed and I've run short of both with *ahem* the current family situation.

Mostly original everything including cooling system, hydraulic fan, battery, same COP's (for me anyways) etc knock on wood

Suspension needs some work since the noise..the NOISE... That and the clockspring (airbag) and a few other nuances have me sitting on the fence here.

It'll either be throwing some money at the LS and continue knocking on wood, or sell for less than the cost of repairs and move along to be a stellar minivan driver with my wife giving me a high five from the passenger seat of a minivan (yay)


So, long story short my LVC cohorts, if there is a link to a comprehensive (complete, start to finish) list of replacement bushings that can be used (ie: Energy Suspension) for an 02 LS V8 with sport suspension please show me the light so I can make the 'noise' stop.

I fixed the pending suspension issues on my 02 by trading it on an 06. You don't even want to price those parts out. That is if you are like me and can't do a project without replacing everything.
 
Bummer, but I'd say go with the minivan. They are nerdy looking to be sure, and the cool factor is a negative number. On the other hand, they are powered and geared to haul their passenger capacity in adults with some cargo so when it's just you they can get after it. With young children they just make life a lot easier. On top of that, it's a minivan. You aren't going to have the urge to dump money into it beyond an entertainment center for the kids. Some of them get in the mid 20s for mileage, and insurance is low because it's a stinkin' minivan and not a performance vehicle.

On the LS that old you are likely only going to get about 1500 in trade on it, which means you will be giving them the car and getting nothing in return. You can work a better deal on the van if you don't do a trade-in. If you do decide to trade, work the entire deal out as a cash deal first, then when you find out what you can get the van for cash tell them you decided to look at the numbers for trading the car in. At least that way you'll have an idea of what the best price is for the van and will have more leverage on getting some value out of the LS.
 
A mini van is more practical. Also, I would consider a Toyota Rav 4. Great little SUV with fantastic trunk space. Available in 4cyl.

If you want a car per-se, I would go with (2008 and above) Nissan Altima 3.5
The Altima not only ruins the LS and most minivans in fuel millage, but it produces 270HP on a stock 3.5V6, comes with CVT Transmission which is amazing, And has AMAZING cargo space for a midsize car.

My bro has the 2008, and on city driving, will pull 700Km's (437 miles) on a Full tank. His current Record, is 820km's (512 Miles) on 1 Full tank, going from Toronto to Cincinnati and arriving with a quarter tank left (All highway). One Full tank on the Altima is 65 Liters (17.1 Gallons)

Fantastic Car. But it HAS to be the 3.5 The 2.5 is good but for tiny bit more cash (used) the 3.5 Is the way to go.

There is a minivan that you would be happy to drive around in made by silver star. 0-60 times are probably under 5 seconds. Give me a second...

Just for thought i'd recommend throwing a MKS as an option. Not a van, but still cool looking and BIG as hell, loaded to the sky with options. And drives like a dream.

Yeah, that's pretty much where I'm at. The OEM stuff is crazy expensive which is why I'm considering aftermarket for the springs/shocks/bushings etc. The mechanic said things didn't look too bad, but it's the noise that bugs me.
You know those negligent people that obviously know their car sounds like ass but just don't give a ****. That's not me but it's sure starting to sound that way.

Thanks for the minivan suggestions, Nissan Quest is also in the garage, it would just become my daily driver instead of the LS. The wife thinks this would just be the best thing evr..of course by her logic there would be more space in the garage that I always wanted to work on the car. My pointing out that the car would first have to be gone to free up said space, earns a semi-confused look. :shifty:
 
i think vans could look cool; like a gm cargo van with dark monochrome color with dark windows and chrome rims, give it an exhaust upgrade and you would be in business. think a-team van with chrome...
 
Yes, but a van is a van. A minivan is a front wheel drive station wagon, and not one of the cool station wagons from the 1970s with the high torque large cube engines under the hood that could carry 6 adults, a ton of cargo and pull a huge boat.
