Actually, that is not correct... The Mark VIII had the 4.6L DOHC engine. Rated at 280 or 290 HP. The 290 came in the LSC.
But, if you WANT to look at it as "what car the engine originated in"... The Cobra uses the Lincoln engine. The 4.6L DOHC first came out in the Lincolns (Mark VIII for the DOHC, Towncar for the SOHC. There were some differences between the Cobra engines (305HP, 320HP, 390HP, year depending) and the INTECH (Lincoln) engines, but they are rather few. It is, essentially the same engine block, rotating assembly, and heads as a cobra (year match dependent), with different intake. Something interesting to note is this engine also found its way into the 03-04 Mach 1 (305, 310HP respectively). And, in addition... the only Iron block 4.6L DOHC was in the 03-04 Cobra; used for the added strength in the supercharged application, factory rated at 390 HP. Most put out around 375 RWHP in factory configuration; leading one to believe the factory rating is severely understated.
5.0's and 5.8's have not been used in the LSC since 92
