so i posted about this before on here and never got around to fixing it but i finally started today.

when i go over bumps in my 02 LS the front of the car makes a loud hollow thud noise. ive been lookin around on the internet trying to figure out the problem and i came across something about the sway bar link.

i fiddled with them today and when i went to go order the part the car was making even louder noises than before, so its a pretty safe bet this is it then right?

Stabilizer bar bushings.

very common problem on the 1st gen Ls sway bar bushings they sell them on ebay or energy suspension has them as well i had them installed at shop cost about 80 bucks with parts and labor and no more noise:D

i'm having trouble finding the sway bar bushings on ebay and on energy suspension, could you post a link?

i already bought and paid for the sway bar links so i installed them anyway because the stock ones were pretty well shot anyway. needless to say it didnt fix the problem. hopefully it will be the sway bar bushings

I'm on my phone atm so I can't easily search, but search for "energy suspension" and you should find the links needed to order yourself a pair of bushings.

should i be getting the 28.5 or 30mm bar size? it has them both listed under the 2002 LS. I have a 2002 LS V8

Looks to be a sport from his photos. Here is a good thread about bushings. And here is the link for the ones that you want for a sport model.

how can you tell if it is sport or base? i honestly have no idea

Well if he has a sport he should be getting the 30mm not the 28.5mm.. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

well as covered many many times, base models have chrome on the bumpers, wood on the steering wheel and shift knob, and have the standard shifter (the shifter has a couple of gears straight down then goes to the right and down for a couple of more gears)

the sport models have painted trim on the bumpers, and leather on the steering wheel and shifter, they also have the SST shifter, all dears are straight down and there is a + and a - to manually shift through the gears off to the right, it kinda looks like a "H"

there are a couple of models that have the sport package and wood however

Get the 30 mm. I have an 02' v8. The right side was a pain in the rear since I had to lift the DCCV out of the way just enough to get the lower bolt out. I ordered mine directly from Energy Suspensions. Big improvement. No more thumps or loud noises.

ok then mine is a sport. my dad has the same car as me and its the base model so its easy to compare the differences now. i am going to order some from energy suspension in the next few days, should i get a shop to install them for me? i hear they are tough to install yourself

on the tail lights where it says lincoln ls v8, if its in gold does that mean its a sport? bc mines written in gold and i know most are written in silver. sorry if the question seems dumb im just trying to learn what i can

i have never seen gold letters, ever. they almost have to be painted , the way you tell the difference is listed above, if it was as simple as what letters are on it, we would have just said that.

if you are still confused on which model you have, craw under and measure that bar for yourself, if you do not know how or what to measure, then your answer to the last question is yes. yea you should find a shop to install them. not trying to say you cant, it just that it is a good test or prerequisite to see if it is something you can do or not.

how much would you guess labor would be for something like this?

Not sure if the gold letters were painted gold im pretty sure it was an option when they were new mine has the gold letters as well tail lights and both front fenders, ive always wonderd...

If you are mechanically inclined, just do them yourself. It's really not that hard, especially if you follow the walk through that has already been posted. If you are lost when it comes to this sort of thing then yes take it to a shop. You will probably get charged around 5 hours labor to have them put in I would think.

There was NEVER a factory "gold" option. It was purely a dealer add-on. JR would be VERY unhappy.......

Manoli I actually like that on your color. Looks good

Thanks i think it would look kind of goofy with silver letters on autumn red, Glad there gold.

no sh!t, thats crazy, i wonder if it was a dealer thing

Im pretty sure like Ls4me says.
