My 2 gen only gets about 17mpg mixed city and hwy driving is this average?
The car runs good and is all tuned up which sensors could effect the mpg?

I was getting 14, then I did the plugs and I am getting 17 again.

I am really hard on the throttle (lots of ricers here that need putting in their place).

I'd kill for 17 mpg. I can MAYBE get to 200 miles on a tank of gas, I have a heavy right foot and average 11.5 - 12 mpg on a full tank. For the spring I'm planning doing a few things to improve my mileage. Do spark plugs/wires make much of a difference? I have a fuel filter too I just dont have the patience to put it on, and it seems like it'd be annoying to do...I guess I'll suffer with 55 bucks a week for gas :-/

Fuel filter is easier than plugs even IMO.

plugs will make a difference if yours are significantly warn that they are hurting mileage.

I usually average 18.5, but I have seen as low as 14. It adds up or should I say subtracts when you warm your car up when its cold for 5 to 10 minutes every time you drive it. I Have kept track of mine for the fast month keeping every recite and I saw from 14 all the way to 22.5. For some reason I saw the best millage from Cenex and the worst from Stop and Go. Probably just my driving that certain week though.

Letting your car warm up and i heard they change the blend of gas in the winter,I got 22-26.3 on the highway last night but i reset my mpg's before i left, sometimes its 14mpg to 17mpg around town

My car has been all tuned up. plugs, wires, fuel filter, regular synthetic oil changes, proper tire inflation, etc. and I average right about 16.5 MPG city & highway combined. This is using a caculator & gallons used divided by mileage.
If on a long highway trip then she gets great mileage, mid to high 20's. But that is 75 MPH with the cruise on.

You guys are correct about using more fuel due to warming your car up & they use that oxygenated methanol stuff here in the winter too.

72 mph with the cruise in my 93 with synthetic oil i'm getting 29.7 on long trips. that's both the car telling me and my calculator telling me 29 mpg.

even with a heavy foot i NEVER average less that 24mpg city and highway combined.

i do enjoy "instant econ" and thrashing it, and watching it go below 2mpg.

It is very hard to believe that you can get an average of 24 MPG combined with a heavy foot when the origional numbers were 17/24 when the car was new. It seems pretty much impossible unless you have some secret fuel saving device like the tornado (lol) JUNK!!! If your numbers are correct they are very impressive.

i did the plugs after they were worn to the point where the car wouldnt start, ill buy that removal tool and go for it once we get weather above 40 degrees around here

with a little rake I have noticed average 25-29 MPG and have done the calculation to back it up. I got the car with some "work" done to it. I found Ford racing and stealership receipts for a crate motor and tranny.

rich, corrected with this last tank of fuel city and highway are now at 20mpg combined after three tanks for fuel. and thats been with some heavy feet...hahah. i think 24 mpg combined could be attainable with conservative piloting.

"you mean tornados don't do anything?" hahah

I like watching the instant mpg's get into the sixties then flooring it and seeing my money go down the drain in a good way.
