Loss of drive after emerg braking

Hi Guys,

I had to hit the brakes real hard the other night and stop the car on a dime, to avoid running over a duck of all things! the darn thing just zipped right out of the brush into my path ...anyway, once the i was ready to get going again, the car had no drive, the engine just revved as if in park or neutral. I waited for like a few seconds but nothing, but drive resumed once again after i put it in park and reselected drive again. I had noticed this before when i have been testing the brakes after doing work on them, but the previous times it took a few seconds but drive returned. Is this normal?

Check your tranny fluid level. Never heard of losing drive after a hard stop, but on Chebby Pick-up trucks, you lose drive after a hard fast turn if the tranny is low on fluid.
