Hello, new to the site and I am in the process of hopefully snapping up a rather cherry '94 town car signature with 104k. It's in fantastic condition, with the only thing cropping up thats causing a raised eyebrow is that a few dash lights are on- the check engine light and the ABS light.

The CEL only came on after I had been test driving it for about five minutes which suggests to me that it may be something that is only triggered after it gets partially warmed up (ambient temperature was around 35) , and the ABS light was always on. My first thought was to hook up a scanner to it of course, but the location of the diagnostic port eludes me. Am I that out of it or is it possible that it doesn't even have one? Also, what might some of the likely suspects be when it comes to causes that might illuminate those lights?

Tomorrow morning I am having my mechanic give it a quick lookover, and if he finds out the problem and its not something hugely major I do believe I will take the plunge on my first TC:D . Any helpful tips on what to look for/at would be appreciated... thanks in advance.

They are great cars, if you get one you will love it. Look for a few things, oring seals like to give out on TC's that are not properly cared for. When the car is running make sure it is not burning blue/white smoke on acceleration/hitting the gas. If it is it may need new ones if it does. Also check the air bags for the rear suspension, see if they have and smaall cracks or dry rot on them, if they do you will need new bags. The bags are for the air suspension. OTher than those two issues, check the usual make sure it shifts properly when you test drive, look for abnormalties in the body or paint, you know the usual checks when buying a used car. Good luck on you're purchase it sounds like a really nice TC.
