I am looking to buy some new low beams and fog lights. All of the 6k-9k HID's that I have seen on this sight look AMAZING!

Does anyone have a website they recommend for purchasing these new lights? They are going into a '04 LS if that makes a difference.

Can I just buy new bulbs and use my factory connecters or do I need to install a whole kit (as the first response suggested)?

You can just pick up a set of Cool Blue light bulbs for like $10 a piece, I'm going to try those out before spending $300 on some lighting...

The cool blue bulbs will change the color of light emitted, but the output is also reduced.

Dude, you are looking at a totally different ball game.

OP-Click here and research the site. They should have links to where to buy.

Very true. I just did silver star ultras' in my LS for now just for some extra output until I have enough for the HID kits.

If you're that unsure, and depending on the weather where you live, I'd say just grab a pair of silver star ultras and save the HID stuff until summer time.

I notice most the kits only work for one set of lights, do you need to buy two kits if you want to both the hi and low beams? I got new halogen bulbs and didn't notice a difference so want to look into HID's.

After you get an HID kit, you most likely never have to use your high beams anymore so I wouldn't worry about getting 2 sets. If you did want to have them both HID, than yes you would have to get 2 sets.

pm mafioso I got HIDs for my Mark VIII from him. Will be getting some for the LS too.

Your low-beam reflectors are not designed to throw light at great distances, no matter what type of bulb you use; that's what the high-beam reflectors are designed for. So, even with HID low-beams, you'll still be able to see further down the road with your high-beams. I'd suggest staying with halogen (or HIR bulbs if you really want a good bang for your buck) for the high-beams, as the color-rendering index of halogen is much better than HID, and that's important when you use your highs to see further down the road.

As a suggestion, I would not go any higher than 5000k if you want any performance out of your headlights. If you just want a blue/purple color so everyone else can think you're cool, and you don't care if you can't see in the dark/rain, then go with the 6000k-9000k like you mentioned. There's a reason why OEM manufacturers use 4300k.

While it's true that the higher up in color temp you go the light output goes down HIDs in general produce more light then halogen so 6000K-8000K should still have more light then the halogen bulb it replaces. However when you go up in color temp the resulting color change makes for short wavelengh(more easily refracted) which results in more glare and less usable distance.

I have not had higher then 6000K on my own cars and had more usable light especially on rainy nights then the stock setup.

+1 Just remember HIDs take time to warm up and switching them on/off alot cuts down on their life span. Personally I would use HIR bulbs for high beams.

Thanks for the responses!

I did not realize a "kit" would need to be installed. After reading up on it, this sounds like a great summer/spring project (I am not doing this in the cold). :D

Also, I was thinking of doing HIDs for my low beams and fog lights..... is that normal or should I only do the low beams?

You know of a source for H11 or H9 HIR's?

Andy

Not off the top of my head. You might check ebay. It's been awhile since I've looked at them. I couldn't justify spending $50-$60 for them since I already have HIDs for low beams and fogs.

Very slim ballasts, no flicker, 2 year warranty, water proof, static free ( when using radio, cheap HID kits have this issue )

Amazing product. Check it out.

He just updated the ballasts, very slim and great output. I recieved the newest ballasts. If you ever need help he is #1 in customer service.

I can take pics outside of the ballasts and HID lights.

He does charge $20 for shipping. no matter what kit you get.

You could get the Toshiba 9011 and 9012 bulbs. If my regular Silverstars burn out, I'm getting a set of those.
