long 1-2 shift on my 96 mark viii

I just bought this 96, and am going through it-I pulled the trans pan and drained the TC, will refill with Mercon 5, and started to do the 1-2 accumulator upgrade, but there's nothing broken-has a orange spring in the piston and a purple spring above the seal, these look like the upgraded parts (I had a 93 that had a bad shudder, and I did have broken springs in that one).
When I run it hard in Drive from a stop, the shift to second takes way too long-if I lift off the gas, it goes into second slowly, and if i drive it normally (boring), it shifts alright. The 93 I had was fun, I could make it bark all day long-Anyone have any conclusions? Thanks

finished it...

got it back okn the road, and there is really no difference-when I went to the dealer to get the 'new' 1-2 accumulator parts, the piston was a little different than what came out, the blue spring that goes into the piston was thicker and longer, and the seal was the same-the guy in the parts department didn't get the purple spring that goes above the seal, so I used the old one (the trans guy at the dealership said it would work, and that the change of parts 'couldn't hurt')-it still doesn't want to go into second with any throttle, you have to 'shift it' with your foot-I asked about getting the trans out of my wrecked 93 and he said that the solinoids have different resistance values and it probably would not be right either-anybody have a good source in the southeast Pennsylvania area for a trans rebuilder, or replacement trans for a 96 Mark? thanks

If it's not the 1-2 piston and spring, it's probably the intermediate clutch. As for a mechanic, contact LVC member "Lincolnmania". He's a Penn State mechanic and very good from what I'm told. if you want to swap in a newer, more reliable transmission, search www.car-part.com for your area and then see this article on how to properly swap the newer one in...
