My car has trouble on start up. Everything seems to fine with it once running. Last night I stopped at a gas station to fill up, and after I was done I started the car. Within 2 seconds, it the engine died. It did this 2 more times, so after I got it to start the fourth time, I put a little on the accelerator to keep the RPMs up. Made it home no problems, started up this morning no problems.

Then I went to my buddy's house today (30 mile trip) and shut the car off there. Car was off maybe 5 minutes and same symptoms when I tried to fire it up.

Anyways I tried to search on here but I'm not sure exactly what to search for. The couple phrases I tried didn't seem to pull up the same problems I am having.

Also the car is a 2002 V6 and has 125000 miles, no performance upgrades.

how about a fuel pump going bad?

i had a similar situation with a galant. bought gas that had been contaminated with diesel fuel. attendant knew the gas was bad and still sold it. resulted in my fuel pump going and a $800 dollar repair on their dime.

at 125,000 miles, it might be time for a new one. i don't know the life cycle of those parts though.

you could have also taken on a lot of water in that fill-up, which will accumulate somewhat in the fuel filter. I would try a bottle of dry-gas, AKA Isopropyl alcohol, and during that, a fuel filter change. Take out the old filter and add drygas to the tank.

could also be your PCV hose under your intake... a bit of unmetered air at low RPM's can stall you out but not cause a problem at high RPMs. Just a thought!

I'd check the IAC first!

Dude!

I had the exact same problem last week. Turned out to be the IAC valve located on the throttle body. A five minute fix. You can clean it but if it is failing then you will have the same problem again. The cost of a new one is $72. When you remove the old one you will see carbon buildup on the inside spring. This is such a common failure item on Fords. I even had the same problem on my BMW's.

Replaced mine, and I'm driving with no problem. On the BMW's you could just remove the electrial connector and the car would run at 2K RPM so you could drive the car. Not sure what it would do on the LS.

The control valves on your fuel pump may be shot, the pump is good, but the control valves are not. Gas is going back in your tank and drying out your fuel line, my moms durango is doing the same thing.

Try letting the accessory run for about 15 seconds and start the car, if it runs just fine, thats the problem.

Also use some super concentrated fuel system cleaner like Gunk or Gumout
