October's sales were just released. Total sales by Lincoln were

Less than sales of the Chrysler 300

also

Less than the sales of Dodge Darts

also

Less than Cadillac SRX

On a plus side total Lincoln sales in October were almost (not quite) twice Chevy Volt sales for October.

Really can't say I'm surprised.
 
Are you saying that total Lincoln sales are less than those individual models from the other auto makers? Not surprised by the comparison to the Volt, that car is selling terribly.
 
Lincoln is losing its status.

Its gonna end up like Oldsmobile.
 
Remember 1999? The LS was suposed to help Lincoln break their old streak. The average age of Lincoln buyers was suposed to lower because of the LS. It didnt work.... It was not the LSs fault though, the market just didn't respond as intended.

Actually, it was the dealers fault. They didn't know what they had. They kept trying to sell it as a mini-Continental.
 
The LS actually helped pave way for the CTS which boosted Cadillac to where it is today. Lincoln should have updated the LS to keep up with it.
 
OH man I saw one of those with the convertible roof kit today, otherwise known as the hail cover. Horrible.

Lincoln cut their models and went all front wheel drive, when all their competitors are building rear wheel drives or rear wheel based all wheel drives. Of course they're going down the tubes. If they want to start selling cars, they need to move back to rear wheel drive cars and boost the HP to about 12lb/HP. Add in a good quality material feel for the interior and some snappy designs, plus some snappy looking sheet metal. I don't care much for the CTS design-wise, but it is a decent looking car and it's a small car. Beat it on size to boot, and it'll sell well. They may have to take a profit cut to do it though, until they rebuild Lincoln's reputation by putting out a quality product.

I even heard stories of Lincoln threatening dealers that put vynal roofs on some LSs.

I was there. The VP of Marketing (Jim Rogers) threatened to break the legs of any dealer that put a vinyl/carriage roof on an LS!
 
Well...... Since their target is Buick......

It's very true and sad at the same time!

If they don't get a new managment and reinvent themselves very soon, an end is very near for them.
I recently read, Lincoln will be building it's own Design Studios. If they are trying to capitlize on their ugly line up, they won't be receiving any accolades.

Hopefully the design studios will start creating some iconic cars instead of building Camry inspired econoboxes.

Given that the 2013 MKZ isn't on dealer lots yet, and they've basically sold out the remaining 2012s, you shouldn't be surprised. When you don't have your single biggest-selling model available for sale, it would be utterly shocking if your sales weren't down.

While i do agree that they need to change thing around to drive up sales, but at the same time you can't compare Chrysler's 300 numbers to a Lincoln's total numbers.

For example, Bently probably sells only few houndred cars a year as well and doesn't necessarily mean that's a bad thing.

BTW, how did the town car numbers get in there? They stopped production on those. Is it fleet only?

The TC was fleet-only for the last few years of its life. The last TC rolled off the line over a year ago (there was no 2013 TC), so they have to be left-over sales.

It doesn't matter how many cars they're selling--what's important is how much profit they're making on them. And you can't really use Lincoln's October sales figures as indicative of anything because they're in between products on their top seller.

In the case of Chevrolet, the Volt may be outselling Lincoln but it was forecasted much, much, higher than what it's doing. I haven't read about it too much but we have profs telling us that they're losing money on those regardless of sales because they're so low.

No, WE'RE losing money. The US taxpayer is still a huge shareholder in GM. We're losing about 45,000 per car if I remember right. The shame of it is, if they ditched the thousand pound limited life battery pack and just made it a serial hybrid it would get much better mileage, perform a lot better and be a lot cheaper.
 
i thought the "loss" was the development cost. the current development cost is still 45000 over the purchase price. with every Volt sold, that number becomes smaller and the development cost is spread out over more cars.

its not a "loss" with every Volt sold. in fact, its somewhat opposite.

My understanding is this is correct. Every volt sold has a better profit margin than the last
