whats the problwm:(
01 lincoln ls v6

..... any other info? what have you checked out so far. Right now I can tell you it's something between the front and back bumper.. perhaps between the steering wheel and seat

Don't be driving it much now other than to take it to the dealer and have them check it. Suspect: COP problem (Coil Over Plug/Coil On Plug)

If they need to replace them, always have each replaced with the spark plug at the same time.

It's a very common problem, just part of standard maintenance...

The following possibilities based on almost no info:

1. Bad PCV plumbing.
2. Bad MAF.
3. Bad gas / No gas.
4. Bad coils.
5. Bad IAC.
6. Bad fuel pump / clogged fuel filter.
7. Clogged cats.
8. ?????

How about more info? How does it idle? Does it have problems when you are pressing the gas pedal? Is it okay in park/neutral? Is the check engine light on? If not, is it burned out? What octane gasoline do you use?

perhaps, its the lowering springs... wonder how many times he will make this thread

i think your problem with the car has something to do either with the motor or the dohickey that rest between the airbag and horn button and the up right part of the drivers seat.

all joking around aside, come on, even with that piss poor description of the symptoms, i can tell you that it is the coils!

sounds expensive you think it can be a fuel filter?

No, it's not common. (Very common is the COP failure mentioned, fairly common on the V6 is the PCV issue.) If you would give us some more detail, then we could tell you if it could be the filter or not. If it's okay at idle but very bad at speed going up a hill, then it could be the filter. If it's bad at idle, but can still pull a hill (even badly), then it's almost certainly not the filter.
It doesn't seem like you are the type to be able to diagnose or fix most things yourself. If you take somewhere, don't tell them what to change. Ask them to find the problem.

Joegr+1

How many miles? most likely not the fuel filter. If it sputters going up a hill, it is likely low octane gas, only use 91+ in the V6, I know, I have a 01V6. If it rough idles, then PCV valve needs replacing. Follow JOEGR, he knows his stuff.:)

In my experience (these have all happened to me):

- Sputtering going uphill at different RPM's: Low octane fuel or water in the fuel
- Missing going uphill in a very narrow RPM range (usually around 1500 rpm, about when the transmission should downshift): Failing coil
- Missing in reverse with occasional miss at idle: Failing coil

The first two have happened to me two or three times each.

I recently had the last two occur after putting in new spark plugs. After installing new Visteon COPs, we're back to normal.

Definitely sounds to me like multiple failing coils. Is the CEL on? If the CEL is flashing DON'T DRIVE THE CAR!!!!!!! You will cause more expensive damage!

$150 to change the fuel filter? Is the filter made of gold? Sounds like a rip-off!

yeah, the filter is like 10 bucks and its took me all of ~15 minutes to change it I am sure the v-6 has the same set up on gen ones

hell, bring it to me, i'll change it for 140.00, plus top off your headlight fluid...

On nutueral its normal and it pulls normal...bringing it to the mechanic the car just stopped but started back up. Another problem? The check engine lights is off. the car has 127k . for the past 6 months it only gets SUpreme gas from chevron
