lincoln ls overheatiing issue

Hello if anyone can tell me what the problem is i would really appreciate it.I have had some sort of cooling issue with my 2003 lincoln ls v8.I have replaced lots of hoses,radiator,water pump,thermostat and housing,cylinder head temp sensor.The temp fluctuates but will go back down.I recently replaced the overflow tank on the drivers side and since i've done that when im driving the tank is filling up and makes weird noises i guess cause it is pressuring up and when i kill the car it sucks back into the motor.I thought when you drive it supposed to fill the engine as needed and when the car is off it goes back into the tank.Have i done something wrong or is there a pump or something that controls the two maybe it is going out if so?
 
yes i have tried that and like i stated about the overflow tank replacement why would it fill the tank when driving and empty back to the motor when i kill the car,could it possibly be too much air in the system or something else?
 
during the fill/bleed process, did you fill the cooling tower almost to the brim during that step of the process? I've found that if I didnt fill that tower full, I mean all the way to the edge..let it sit a minute...fill again to the edge, etc? Then I'd never get rid of the air bubbles 100%

Its not an overflow tank. Its a degas bottle. It is a pressurized, intrical part of your cooling system. Its not the same as a overflow tank in most cars. If it is making noises you havent bled all the air out of the system. have you followed all the steps to the letter in this tech article?....

+1.....with Hite. We could be off but it sounds as if there is still air in the system.
 
i'm working on that and have a lot of air bubbles coming out of the heater bleed looks like a lenghty process but hope it works.
 
well i've bled the air and thought i had it fixed but drove it down the road today and same thing i could hear the same sounds in the degas bottle when driving and when i kill the car it sucks back into the motor also making noises.This only started happening when i changed the degas bottle never before.I need help!!!!!!

Did you follow this procedure to the letter?

If not, then you have to do it exactly as it says. If you have, then you are over your head and will need to take it to a Lincoln or Ford dealer.
 
I will try it again tomorrow and follow the steps very closely to make sure i get it done correctly because it never did it before i changed the degas bottle.Thanks.
 
did you get OE or aftermarket. i had a aftermarket bottle that was doing the same thing. the cap of the bottle is supposed to act as a pressure regulator and it is supposed to release steam through the cap. i have found that aftermarket tanks especially the ones made from DOORMAN have this issue. i replaced the tank with OE and problem gone.
 
i got one from partsgeek.com it was only 60 plus shipping the oe from ford was gonna be 180 wow big price difference

You may find that the $60 isn't good enough. For sure, it's not the OEM one. We need a better replacement degas bottle, not a worse one.

BTW, plastic can be made to work. My Grand Marquis all had plastic degas bottles, and I never had to replace one of those.
 
The $60 Dorman bottle will only last a little while. The first time you take the cap off when the coolant is hot it will not thread back on right. The Motorcraft bottle is the way to go
 
I drove round trip 50 miles yesterday and no problems so thanks for all the advice and suggestions i believe i finally got it YEAH!!!!!!
 
well i didn't get it.It still rises on me in stop and go traffic so i drained the whole system and made it worse.Now i can't get the defrost to get hot and the degas bottle is filling while driving then when i stop the car it sucks into the motor.What is the dccv function or purpose?
 
Is there a reason at this point the op should not be taking the car to a certified mechanic? All of these overheating cycles cannot be good on his engine.
 
well here i go again i replaced the aftermarket bottle with oem and same problem but now i cant even drive very far without temp going up.The degas bottle is filling up way past the cold fill line while driving,opposite of what its supposed to do.My car is at ford now and they checked it for a few days and told me today it needs new head gaskets but i have no water in my oil and no smoking and not loosing coolant.Would a head gasket sealer kit be worth trying or just pay them 3000?

If it needs head gaskets, then it needs head gaskets. Trying any of the magic pour in cures would be a waste and might well mess other things up.

Head gasket failure on the 3.9 is very rare, but I suppose it could happen if overheated enough times. Are they guessing at this, or did they do a hydrocarbon test on the cooling system?
