I have a 2000 lincoln ls which I have been told has clogged up cats. Same repair shop said they could fix it no problem for for just under $1600. As I lowered my middle finger and began to walk out of there, I was thinking of replacing the cats with just a straight pipe. Could some one tell me the possible problems I could run into by doing this? (other than the legality issue)

Well thats good news, I can deal with that. A follow up question if I could, what does the 3.9 V8 sound like without the cats, do you know?

Yes I have the same problem where I need to get a new catalytic converter, but I just have not yet. I have had the CEL light on for 6+ months. I am not in a state with emissions checks. I will fix it very soon, but it should be anywhere near $1600, that is ridiculous.

I've run across the same problem with a busted cat and a CEL. It's a slip on part apparently (no weld) unless you replace it with a pipe. Maybe emissions failure at inspection should be the only problem. However, the computer might read the failed cat as there being too much fuel in your exhaust and you might get a lean mixture in the cylinders. I feel as though I'm getting less pep recently.

i just recieved a phone call from my dealership saying i needed a catalyc converter, they said it is covered by ford for 8 years 80,000 miles FYI

just order a new cat on ebay, i got a magnaflow for 50.00

2000 lincoln ls most likely has more then 80,000 but i would be nice to be free...

the cat is just under $500 bucks from lincoln, each. unless their labor rate it $500 an hour theyre jerking you off. you could get an aftermarket cat for around $100, and they work the same. i tried to put in and off road H pipe (or was it X pipe?) anyway, the dude told me CEL on all the time and no pass on inspection. and im in NYC so it matters.

I just got mine back today, new cat, runs like a champ, it is wet out so i did a burnout LOL first ever
