Hey there!

I'm new to the forum so forgive me if this is an existing thread.

I've had my 02 ls for sometime now and just recently ran into a problem that Im not sure how to fix.

I seem to have lost all low end through my sound system. I have two 12" subs that I tapped off the speaker wire from the rear deck and they have lost a vast majority of power as well. I also get a very faint static noise coming from all speakers when the volume is up really high. Any one ran into this before? Is my head unit shot? It happened sort of out of the blue, one day I started up the engine and thought that my music sounded really muted and weird. Nothing out of the ordinary happened to the car so I'm not sure what could be causing it.

I have the stock head unit and if it makes a difference I have the V8 model ls.

Any help is much appreciated!! :)

Your sub amp is probably shot. It was designed to drive two 2 ohm subs.
It's also possible that your head unit is failing (either instead of the sub amp, or in addition to the sub amp).

well for starters, is the sub amp(aftermarket) even turning on? and you know that the fuses are good right?

wait after re reading what joe said, do you mean that you have your two 12"s running off of your OEM amp (if so, stupid)? or do you mean that you do have a aftermarket amp and your signal input is using high level inputs that you got from the rear OEM sub wires? I assumed its the latter...

Yes, sorry for the confusion... I have an aftermarket amp and the signal inputs is coming off of the OEM 6x9 speaker wire in the rear deck. And to answer the other question, yes the amp turns on and powers the subs just fine, but the overall volume for all speakers is significantly lower and lacks nearly all low end. I have a feeling that my head unit is shot b/c it is affecting all speakers throughout the car, not just the subwoofers. I just wanted to confirm my suspicion if this has been a common problem with the ls.
