I just bought an ls but i dont actually have it yet basically just signed papers and stuff so will have it soon, but its a 2000 v8 thats silver. I noticed that it only has a cassette and thought that was really weird for a luxury car to only have a cassette. Then I heard about the alpine sound system, can i assume that if i only have a cassette then i dont have the good sound system. Whats the differance in them? Number of speakers? RMS of speakers? etc?

thanks in advance

NOt sure about the 2000 with a cassette but the 2004 dropped the alpine label though still made by them. It has an in dash 6 cd setup and 12 speakers with 2 subs and I think 2 or 3 amps. I just may have one for sale:)

you probably got the 6 disc CD changer in the glove box or the trunk... i dont think any LS has just a casette player and thats it... i got the casette player on the dash with the 6 disc in the glove box, 4 door speakers, 2 on the rear deck with the amp, and 2 little tweeters on the side of the center console... there are so many combos of sound systems in the LS's tho

12 speakers damn, i think my car has 6 2 in the front doors, 2 in the back doors, and 2 in the back. Unless their are some that arent obvious to see.

i think Lincoln counts the door speakers as 2 each, because they are a 2 way speaker... that that would be 8 in the doors, 2 on the rear deck, and 2 in the center console = 12... stupid, but thats how they count it

oh ok that makes sense.......i dont remember ever opening the glove box......im gonna feel stupid if their is a 6 disc in there. Sorry for bothering you guys if there is.

i would GUARANTEE there is one in the glove box... maybe the trunk so check there also... good luck, let us know!

i didnt see it in the trunk i would have remembered that because i looked at it to see if my subs would fit lol

I have a 2000 LS with a cassette only when I bought it. I bought an adapter to hook a changer up to then fabbed the glove box inside so I could install it in there. Looks good I think and would never know it's not factory. I had to drill holes so the brackets on the CD player could be fastened in there. Doesn't skip or anything.

do you have a v8? what kind of options did your car have?

I have a V8, I think my car is just a base model because it doesn't have moon roof. I was a little disappointed when I learned it come with a CD player but whatever I have one now.
LennDawg, that PS2 looks awesome.

I tested a v6 base and it just had a cassett player, I did not look for a cd player or again though and the salesman never said anything about it having one.

I never looked at any v6 ls' when i was looking because all i wanted was a v8 so i assumed that because the v8 was more expensive it would also come with more options. Its not really a big thing to me because i plan on getting a dvd headunit at some point, i just wanted to be able to have a stock cd player for a little while.

well when i pick up the car im looking in the glove box before i go anywhere.

If it's not in the glove box or trunk, look in both places and see if there are signs of one ever being there. Those can tend to get "liberated" when they are sold on a used car lot. Either by someone who works there or by the original owner.

dude, i thought mine didnt have one, and it took me putting my registration and all that good stuff into the glove box to find it, but i dont event use it since i use the tape deck to play my ipod

my :q:q:q:qin cd changer door (u know where the cd's go) is jammed any suggestions on how to get that bitch out without having to buy a new unit?
