I replaced the valve covers, seals, and spark plugs 3 days ago. Unplugged the battery to clear code(s). Everything is fine but I get an occasional spudder/shudder at idle and while driving. I'm assuming a bad coil but can't get a cel to appear after driving it for 200 miles to determine which one or how many are bad. Any help would be appreciated

PS:I bought an entire set of 8 coils off ebay for $142, they are about 1/4" too tall where the wiring connector is and the coil cover will not fit back onto the valve cover. Has anyone had this BS happen to them?

I bet you bought your coils from Global Automotive.... Like most of us, that's where we bought ours. It's a crap shoot on which ones your get from them. Some got all 8 that fit, some received all 8 that didn't. I got 4 that did, and 4 that didn't.

Just email the seller and explain to him what happened. Throw in some pics. There are a few threads on this exact "incident" w/ photos.

After a few emails with the seller (global in my case) they did an exchange.

Check to make sure all your fuel injectors are clipped in. When i did mine one of them wasn't plugged in and had the same symtoms. Worth a try

Not sure

Its a place in Ontario, CA. If you type in lincoln ls ignition coil its all the way at the bottom from an ebay store. $130 for 3.0 and $142 for 3.9

It is a friends car I was working on and now I'm pretty sure its going to the dealer (he likes to waste money) because he needs the car back asap and coils were sent back today and they don't have the short ones till next month!

Anyone ever try a cylinder balance test to determine which coils are bad?

Thanks
Brian
