What are the chancesof being able to duplicate the new "LED running lights" on the Audi R8?

I love this more than the anel eyes, and it 'looks' like it can be done, fairly easily. Anybody interest in trying it out?

That could look pretty decent if done right and the LEDs were kept covered/hidden. Let us know if you attempt it and how it comes out.

A guy overseas did it with his Ford Mondeo. They don't wrap all the way up the side of the light, but he said it only took him 45 minutes for both sides. Required him taking the lense off(obviously) and mounting the LED strip.

I was thinking about doing something along thelines of led's in the headlight housing... I was going to take apart the light, and drill into the chrome reflectors to mount the led's. Once I get brave enough, or get a spare set of lights...

no need to drill really. Places like OZNIUM.COM sell small LED strips that are hard to even see unless you're looking for them.

Right, but I'd be more picky about placement. I wouldn't want just a line of led's spaced so closely together...

I feel the same way. I wouldn't want them so close together. But you may be able to get them customly (real word?) done.

I'm gonna think of something. I'll get back to you guys.

Actually, that R8's lights remind me of the rope lights in movie theater aisles. I bet it looks better in person though...

Thats what I've been looking for, but I can't find that style with LEDs. All the strips I can find have the bulbs upright

Yeah.. I am debating on the length right now and where to mount them.. but seems to be easily installed and removed, so why not. I'll update asap

I like the idea. Here are a few very crude pictures I made up.

This one for the people that mentioned they liked it in the back of the headlight.

I'm hoping one of you photoshop gents will do something more suitable. I just really wanted to see what it would like.

Nice..

I think it would look better going from the bottom up (Like the Audi). Do you not like it that way or were you trying to be different?

I just thought it went better with the headlight shape.
Is this more what you were thinking of?

if it comes out successfully be sure to let us in on the secret how-to i like the mondeo's setup

I like it across the bottom...mate that with some angel eyes an you got a winner.

I'm currently putting together my AVIC-D3, but once I'm done I'll start working on this. I have a spare pair of headlights which I will use.

Nate - Good one! Very clever. I think my 10 year old cousin got a chuckle out of that one.

Just wondering, led's are pretty bright head on. would they have to be angled alittle bit, or covered at all? Also is the r8's, 12 independent led's or is it a housing with one bulb?

I like the top headlight look but think it should run all the way around the corner.

1. LED low-beam headlight module: basic light distribution by an array of four LEDs for each of the upper and lower reflector shells, range and light/dark boundary via the plastic lens from three arrays of two LEDs.

2. LED high-beam headlight reflectors: one array of four LEDs per reflector shell.

3. LED turn signal: eight yellow high-performance LEDs.

4. LED daytime running light strips: 24 white Advanced Power TopLEDs with optical fibers for homogeneous illumination.
