i have a 2002 v8 lincoln ls and the other day with no warning started leaking power steering fluid alot. i looked today to find the source of the leak and found what appears to be streaming from the top of the pump out of a electrical connection. i have searched the internet and found nothing about nothing about leaking out of a electrical connection on top. The part looks like brass and hexagon shaped nut with a electrical connection out the back. Im sure pics would help and I will take some and load if this doesnt sound right.

You wouldnt happen to have direction as far as tools and procedures? i dont want to spend alot a time doing the wrong thing

I don't remember what size socket it took - but that was it - put a drain pan under the car near the pump, remove the connector, and use a deep well socket & ratchet to remove the pressure switch.

Install new switch.

Pretty simple, just a pain to get easy access to the back of the pump.

I did this a couple months ago on a 2002 V6 LS.

BUCKEYE LS dropped his car off at my house to have a few things done, and during a test drive, I noticed a burning smell, and some light smoke coming from under the hood, along with the lovely sound of a power steering pump running dry.

Popped the hood to find fluid spraying out through the connector every time you turn the steering wheel.

The fluid was landing on the exhaust manifold and burning off.

IIRC, I paid around 30-40$ at the dealer for the part.

Some LS's have the pressure switch on the front of the pump behind the pulley, and some are on the back of the pump. The dealer part works with both setups.

I tried replacing the switch tonight and after 3 hrs the only the I accomplished was releasing the connection. I cant find any access to get to it. Ive tried from the top, taking off the wheel and the only thing i can get on it is the socket cannot get the rachet because of some kind of bracket (on compressor?). There doesnt seem to be enough space. Any help is greatly appreciated

well i finally got it fixed. I was not aware that there are different lengths of "deep" sockets. I bought one today that was about a inch shorter on a 3/8" ratchet and I was finished in about an hour. Got it loose from the top. By the way it was a 19mm socket. Thanks for your help 2000sport

I believe I have the same problem. The other day my 2002 LIncoln LS V8 just started spitting out fluid onto the exhaust. White smoke everywhere. You said it was a 19mm deep socket? Also at any point did you have to go under the car to replace it? I can see the electric connection on the back but can't really see the pressure sensor. What is the best way to get to it?
