Lazy Gas Gauge

Since I bought my LS I soon realized that a quarter tank meant it was empty. Basically if I hit 1/4 it will slam to nothing and the gas light will come on. Is this caused by something in the tank or is the gauge faulty?

It's one of the two fuel level senders in the gas tank.
