Damn, I must have done something bad cause this karma thing sucks....

Last night I was driving just a block from the McDonalds that I was stranded at with oil all on the ground. I was heading there once again for the fine dining experience.

But a block before a pot whole the size of Greyhound bus jumps right out in front of me. It was about 8 inches deep. It would not have been so bad, but the road was once concrete and then covered with blacktop. Where the whole was, everything was removed and VERY little blacktop filled in.

This crapy work resulted in a whole 8 inches deep that lead to a "step" of concrete with another small step of blacktop.

It basically was a curb!

The two officers that came up behind me did the same thing, but those larger tires did not get a snake bite like mine.

So I instantly blew my tire. One VERY loud bang. I thought I blew another ball joint. Also the wheel has a slight dent.

Since the hole was reported earlier and not taken car of the city is at fault and has to pay for repairs.

What should I ask for? I feel that TWO new tires and one new wheel with an alignment if fair. Two tire because as the Ford dealer said, the other is almost due for replacement and the difference in wear between a new and used will affect alignment. The wheel may be usable, but its bent. I located a new one for $500.00. And after an impact like this, an alignment will be needed.

Demanding too much? I dont think so. If it had not been reported earlier and neglected I would not be so demanding.

Oh and to top things off I had no spare but my roommate came with one. A repair crew was there before he was!!! The police report reflected all this, that is was reported before and was now fixed.

I'd have a qualified lincoln dealership look the car over, then print out the prices for all new OEM parts. If they cut you a check for the amount you might be able to pocket alittle cash for pain and suffering. Also stress the point you need 2 same size tires or it will twist your rear end all up on take offs after you get them rotated.

You can ask for two new tires but they may charge you for betterment, because you are coming out ahead w/ new tires, because you needed new ones anyway. Just like insurance companies in collisions where they replace tires but only pay partial price because you are being 'bettered' w/ the new tires.

Well I got the bill. $2k in damages! Ha! Well the rim is $500.

But I looked at the estimate. New sway bar end links... as in both? All new bushings? A new LCA? And a new tension strut rod...

First the entire front end, minus ONLY the inner tie rods has less than 10k miles on it. I just replaced it all.

Yes it was a hard hit, but I found some of this odd.

The sway bar links where not damaged, just worn.
ALL the bushings are new, and none could have been THAT damaged in the impact, at least not all of them.
The tension strut rod? Those things are like tanks and free-floating. I doubt its bent but will look.
LCA, well could be bent if anything. But thats not it, the bushings are damaged and lose. Well, if that was the case I don't see how I could be driving it for the past few days without the alignment slowly getting worse.

I will inspect myself, but it looks like they are playing the "customer does not know any better" game or the "city is paying for it" game......

Either way, I will not be having them do any further work.....
