i dont have a handheld code reader/scanner, i have software on my laptop. its sweet but it doesnt come with a way to run the KOEO and KOER self-tests right from the software. there's a "terminal" where i can input OBD-II instructions or whatever and i guess if i have the appropriate string of characters to enter, then it will run the tests but idk where to find the string of characters to enter.

does anyone else use a laptop based code reader/scanner and has anyone run the self-tests this way?

I use this.
http://www.autoenginuity.com/order.html

It does the KOEO, KOER, PATS security mode, and a few other functions from some nearly user friendly menus.

well dang. it looks like i bought the wrong scan tool and software.
i have the OBDLink SX and ScanXL software from here:

http://www.scantool.net/scan-tools/pc-based/obdlink-sx.html
http://www.scantool.net/software/scanxl-std.html

does everything in the world except run those self-tests. and despite multiple inquiries from ppl on their support forum, no one has posted how to do it with this software.... im becoming depressed...
