I hAVE A 03 LINCOLN LS. I WOULD LIKE TO PUT A KKM AIR INTAKE ON IT. CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF IT VOIDS YOUR WARRANTY. I PUT I REGULAR K & N AIR FILTER ON IT AND THEY TOLD ME AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE OIL OR GREASE ON THE FILTER SCREWED ONE OF MY SENSORS UP?? ALSO DOES THE CAR SOUND BETTER WITH THE AIR INTAKE ON IT?? AND DOES IT ADD HORSEPOWER??

THANKS
DON

cant tell you for sure about the warranty. i would think it wouldnt though. theyll give you a few extra horsepower (some of them claim gains like 20 but thats a lie- it's more like 5 but that is a noticeable increase). ive just recently put one on my LS and it seems to have made a slightly throatier sound while accelerating.

I would take it to another dealership if possible.

They are right tho the oil could have gotten to the MAF and did some damage, but take a look at it yourself and see how it looks. I am wondering, why did you need the dealership to look at it to begin with? They may have a wrong diagnoses altogether and are jumping to conclusions since they see the aftermarket part ( dealerships like doing this ).

Well, as for aftermarket items voiding a warranty that is a sticky and yet heated debate. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act is a federal law that governs consumer product warranties. Passed by Congress in 1975, the Act requires manufacturers and sellers of consumer products to provide consumers with detailed information about warranty coverage. In addition, it affects both the rights of consumers and the obligations of warrantors under written warranties. Basically, it means that you are protected when it comes to stupid dealers trying to void a warranty on unrelated items. For instance, you put a K&N air filter in your car and the mirror falls off. They can't void your warranty because you put an aftermarket item on your car. Now, you put a K&N filter or performance item like that and blow your engine because you were drag racing then that is another story.

As for the K&N filter, it is possible that if it has too much oil in it it can cause problems for the MAF sensor. As with most oil based type of filters this is probable. However, we never hear of problems with customers that have the KKM induction kits.
