Kick the cats?

I'm almost positive I've got severly clogged cat's. Reason I'm convinced, when the car is acting up and I get out... I get the "rotten egg/hot" smell.

I'm thinking, get rid of them and slap on some straight pipes.

Will this affect anything eletrical/computer related?
 
And depending where you live, you would fail you states smog test and it is against the law everywhere.
 
And now................. the check engine light is on!

Awesome! Ran a few errands today and it was bogging down bad on my trip back home, pedal to the floor = nothing.

I live in Fla. Almost everycar I've ever owned I had the cats removed, no problems. It's just finding a shop willing to do it.

How does one aquire "dummy sensors'?

Did you remove the cats allready?


I never felt the urge to do something like that, you would imagine they are on the car for a reason either way:rolleyes: .

Google around for the sensors.
 
No, they're still on. So far I've heard "bad EGR, o2, clogged cats" from unspent fuel... i.e. sh!tty coils.

This problem runs rampant in this community. So DAYUM annoying.

To make things more retarded, when I use select shift trans it runs great. No studders, no nothing...
 
Strange. I see you have the 2005 but I had to get my 2000 a trans flash with updated data or what ever. I never thought the 2nd Gen would have this problem. Sounds like it may be on those lines.

Whats this updated data you speak of?? I have a 2000 and the trans on mine has never been flashed. What was the problem/symptom that required a re-flash?

how's the fuel mileage and power after removing the cats? i'm in the same shoes as cashmere. i want to cut them off but am worried about fuel mileage. also, do you have mil eliminators for the engine light?
 
Yah it's frikken strange. I'm also wanting to know about the trans flash...

I'm going to Autozone to get my comp diagnosed to be safe.

Has "gutting out" inerds of the stock cats been done, i.e. no worrying about dummy sensors?

All I know is that the trans started shifting late and acting strange, it was something they noticed while doing the coils.

Call a Lincoln Dealer and ask for specifics. If I find the work order I will type off some of the things about it.


Has "gutting out" inerds of the stock cats been done, i.e. no worrying about dummy sensors?

Im not positive if anyone here done it cause I myself have not been around to long at all but I am sure it would take rewelding would it not? If so how worth it is that?

I also thnk you may still need the sensor.

Ok, cool, thats what i wanted to know. My trans has been shifting late shifting out of 1st and sometimes 2nd (especially in cold weather, and when i start driving the car after it has set for a while) and has been acting a little weird during normal up shifts and down shifts (not slipping, just acting weird). I was starting to think my trans was going bad, but this give me hope, Thanks!!

I will call the local lincoln dealer and see what they have to say. If you could find the info from your work order, that would be a big help. Thanks again!

IM running 2.5 inch piping and no cats.... I lost quite abit of torque im sure. but come like 3500 RPM I saw a huge difference. I break traction if Im in first gear at that RPM. I couldnt do that before.
 
So i've been using the SST and the car has been running perfect. Today after picking up some lunch, the car wouldn't go in to 3rd, up or down. Shut it off, drove it a little later... works fine again. My LS is playing games with me!!!
 
i think they put a ban on selling MIL eliminators because theyre saying theyre illegal or something. they dont know if they will be sold again...

That is, I'm told, a symptom of misfiring. As was described to me, when the ignition misfires, the engine's power drops, and the transmission tries to shift gears, then the power comes back, and it's caught in mid-shift--essentially, the misfiring confuses the transmission. In SST, you're controlling the shifting, so none of the PCM shifting strategies come into play, and there's no misfire-induced shifting hesitation.

:confused: I was wondering about this. My check engine light comes on every once in a while - I had the code read and the shop told me it was from the O2 sensors and basically it was saying one of the cats was shot because the readings between the front O2 sensor and rear O2 sensor were too similar. If that's true then I think if you were to "gut" the insides of the cat you would have the same problem?
Does anybody know if that's true or not about the CEL from too similar of a reading between the two O2 sensors????

This is somewhat true, but if you use some method to "delete" the cats, the rear 02 sensors are not needed since they are not monitoring anything anymore, but you will need an 02 spoof to fool the computer into thinking that the cats are there and to keep the check engine light off.

In my grand prix gtp my tuner programmed the computer to ignore the post-cat sensors all together. No cats, no spoof, and no check engine light. This computer tweak may (or may not ) be possible with LSs that have an Xcal and a tuner.

I would be interested to know if that's true or not. More justification for buying an Xcal... It's probably not too much more than buying factory cats...
 
Well I am still running w/ the SST and it's going well.

I just can't justify PAYING for catalytic converters! I don't like them in the 1st place, why pay for some while I can have straight, less restrictive pipes in their place??

Am I alone here? There has to be a way to bypass those sensors...
